Labuan Tourism Plans New Strategies, Programmes

LABUAN, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Ministry's office here is planning new strategies and programmes to attract more visitors to the island in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

Its director Faruzrahidzah Mohd Kassim said Labuan despite its small size was also a tourism player with its own icons like other states in the country. "We want to introduce new programmes to woo domestic and foreign visitors and not just tourists who are on transit," she told Bernama here today.

According to her, visitor arrival to the island last year totaled 921,799 while the target for this year was one million. Faruzrahidzah said the Labuan International Sea Sports, Borneo Arts Festival and Labuan Arts Festival were among the programmes that had drawn tourists to the island.

Meanwhile, 10,000 domestic tourists are expected to attend the Labuan arts festival 2013 organised by the Tourism and Culture ministry's office, on Nov 15 until Nov 17 at the International Sea Sports Complex.
