KUALA LUMPUR FASHION WEEKEND 2013

Malaysian chic meets British Fashion this year at the KL Fashion Weekend Autumn/Winter ’13, a fashion and shopping event held in conjunction with the 1Malaysia Year-End Sale 2013. With KLCC’s lake Symphony Fountain as the backdrop, this much anticipated fashion extravaganza is set to dazzle from 14 to 17 November 2013 at The Esplanade, KLCC.

Organised by Tradisi Busana PR and brought to you by Tourism Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend was conceived in 2011 and modelled after the famous London Fashion Weekend, the city’s largest and most exclusive designer shopping event opened to the public. Held during Malaysia’s annual sales events (1Malaysia Mega Sale carnival and 1Malaysia Year-End Sale), Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend  aims to provide consumers with first-hand look and information for directional trends for hair, make-up and fashion from the industry’s ever changing seasonal collections.

From the beginning, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend has managed to draw the support and participation of retail giants Parkson and Metrojaya and favourite international and local brands the likes of Debenhams, Karyaneka and Desigual. The event provides a platform for promoting Duty Free shopping while giving excellent brand exposure and creating an important revenue stream for the local retail industry.

Three years in, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend achieved another success when the event was able to attract and establish a fashion forward partnership with the United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) agency to feature leading UK fashions and retail brands in its 2013 showcase. The move also supports the Government’s initiative to promote Malaysia as a vibrant Duty Free destination and make Kuala Lumpur a gateway for foreign fashion principals to carve their presence in the country.

Malaysian’s love for anything British makes UKTI an ideal and perfect partner for Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend. British brands have also proved to be very successful in Malaysia’s vibrant retail market. Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend AW ’13 featuring ‘GREAT British Fashion’ is the first large-scale joint initiative by the UK and Malaysian governments to be held in Malaysia. The preview of what’s in store for KLFW ‘13 featuring Great British Fashion was first presented earlier this year on 8th June 2013, with UK brands Debenhams, Laura Ashley, Jane Norman, Blue Inc and Accessorize making an appearance on the catwalk.

The Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend AW ’13 event in KLCC is set to feature brands such as Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Clarks, Storm London, Warehouse, Desigual, Debenhams, Marks & Spencers, Bhs, Jane Norman, Blue Inc, Accessorize, Paul Smith Junior, Young Versace, Junior Gaultier, Young Hugo Boss, Ferrari Junior, Little Marc Jacobs and French Connection Kids. Local presentation includes from Metrojaya, Parkson, Karyaneka and AEON.

While Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend’13 features retail collections and is an ‘open to the public’ fashion presentations by both British and Malaysian retailers, KL Alta Moda on the other hand,  caters to the high society and serious fashion buyers and will be a platform for leading fashion designers and couturiers. On the panel of consultants for KL Fashion Weekend and KL Alta Moda are Professor Datuk (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE, a renowned shoe designer and Saleem d'Aronville, who was the first design director for Mulberry. KL Alta Moda will feature Malaysia’s leading bespoke tailor to Malaysia’s crème-de-la-crème, Lord’s Tailor and British fashion icon, Zandra Rhodes who will parade her much sought after couture collection.
