JYY Group Launched its First National Gifting & Wellness Experiential Hub Opens at KLIA Terminal 2 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today marked a new milestone in tourism and nation branding with the official launch of MyTreasure – short for "Malaysia's Treasure" – JYY's first National Gifting & Wellness Experiential Hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA Terminal 2).

Developed by JYY Group in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), MyTreasure was created with a mission to discover, celebrate and elevate Malaysia's hidden treasures by bringing together the nation's natural wellness products, local flavours, cultural experiences and homegrown stories in a single destination for global travellers.

The grand opening ceremony was officiated by YBrs. Encik Mohd Amirul Rizal bin Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, who described the initiative as a meaningful platform to elevate Malaysia's unique offerings to the global stage.

"Malaysia has many treasures, but our greatest challenge has always been how to present them to the world in a meaningful and memorable way. MyTreasure reflects the kind of public-private collaboration that will be critical to the success of Visit Malaysia 2026. While the Government provides the platform and direction, it is visionary Malaysian companies like JYY Group that help bring the Malaysia story to life. As such, I would like to congratulate JYY Group – I hope it becomes a symbol of how Malaysian brands can proudly represent our nation, our culture and our heritage to the world," said YBrs Encik Mohd Amirul Rizal bin Abdul Rahim.

Alann Tan, Founder and Group CEO of JYY Group, shared: "After nearly two decades in the gifting industry, we realised something. Malaysia is rich in amazing products, traditions and stories. Yet many remain undiscovered by the world. That inspired us to create MyTreasure. Not simply as a retail store but as a treasure hunter for Malaysia. Travelling across the nation, searching for authentic local treasures, curating them and bringing them together in one place. So that every traveller can discover the very best of Malaysia before leaving our shores."

Strategically located at KLIA Terminal 2, one of Malaysia's busiest international gateways serving millions of travellers annually, MyTreasure aims to redefine how visitors experience Malaysia before they return home. More than a retail destination, the experiential hub brings together wellness, culture, gastronomy and gifting under one roof, creating a curated showcase of Malaysia's most celebrated natural and cultural treasures.

Discover Malaysia's Natural Treasures

At the heart of MyTreasure is a carefully curated collection of products inspired by Malaysia's biodiversity, wellness heritage and local pride. Trigona Honey sourced from rainforests of East Malaysia, this rare and highly prized honey is celebrated for its natural antibacterial properties, rich nutritional profile and low-GI benefits. Often regarded as one of Malaysia's hidden wellness treasures, Trigona Honey has become increasingly sought after by consumers seeking natural and sustainable ways to support their daily wellbeing.

JYNNS concentrated bird's nest harvested from the Gomantong Caves of Sabah and crafted using an exclusive 28-year heritage recipe and preparation process, this premium bird's nest is recognised as one of Malaysia's most prized wellness treasures, embodying the country's rich biodiversity, heritage and wellness legacy.

Positioned as a new-generation national gifting symbol, MyTreasure seeks to offer travellers a more meaningful way to remember and share their Malaysian experience beyond conventional souvenirs. The experiential hub further reinforces its national-level positioning through its strategic collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, featuring official Visit Malaysia Year 2026 elements, including the campaign mascots Wira and Manja, across selected product packaging and displays.

"A Taste of Malaysia" Cultural Experience

Recognising that food is often one of the strongest memories travellers bring home, MyTreasure has introduced the “Taste of Malaysia” experience, inspired by the nation’s iconic flavours and diverse culinary heritage.

Visitors can enjoy exclusive offerings such as Trigona Honey ice cream and specialty honey beverages, pandan cloud cake, and durian coffee. The experiential concept was designed to encourage travellers to sample and appreciate Malaysian flavours before selecting gifts to bring home. The flagship hub also features exclusive Malaysian-inspired merchandise and lifestyle accessories, further enriching the gifting experience and providing visitors with distinctive keepsakes that celebrate the country's culture and identity.

JYNNS Trigona Honey Propolis Series Makes Official Debut

In conjunction with the launch of MyTreasure, JYY Group also officially highlighted JYNNS Trigona Honey Propolis as part of its ongoing commitment to transforming Malaysia's natural wellness treasures into meaningful solutions for modern lifestyles.

JYY Group has established a strategic partnership with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to advance the scientific research, development and global recognition of Malaysian Trigona Honey.

Recent studies conducted with UTAR demonstrated that JYNNS Trigona Honey Propolis Spray ranked among the top-performing products tested against Streptococcus pyogenes, a bacteria commonly associated with throat discomfort, while also showing strong antibacterial activity against E. coli and Salmonella Typhimurium. The findings further highlighted its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, reinforcing the global potential of Malaysian Trigona Honey Propolis.

Exclusive Rewards and Opening Promotions

To celebrate the opening, MyTreasure is offering a series of exclusive promotions for travellers:

> Shoppers who make any purchase at the MyTreasure outlet are eligible to purchase WCT Buddy Shopping e-Vouchers at 20% off under the Voucher Bonanza Sales Promotion, on a first-come first-served basis.

Malaysia expands halal tourism strategy into spa and wellness sector

Malaysia has taken a strategic step to extend its leadership in the global halal ecosystem into the spa and wellness sector, with the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) and the Association of Malaysian Spas (AMSPA) at ITB Berlin.

The collaboration will see ITC roll out a structured Muslim-Friendly Spa Guideline and Training Programme to 100 AMSPA members through dedicated training modules, capacity-building programmes and a formal recognition framework.

A press release jointly issued by ITC and AMSPA stated: “The programme is conceived to introduce authentic Malaysian spa and wellness offerings to attract more tourists to Malaysia in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

“It also signals Malaysia’s intent to strengthen standards within the halal wellness segment while positioning the country as a reference point for destinations seeking to tap into the growing Muslim travel market.”

The MoU was signed by ITC director-general Mohammad Faisal Abu Suaib Khan and AMSPA president Selinastein Mohd Rashid. Minister of tourism, arts and culture Tiong King Sing witnessed the signing, signalling his support for the development of Muslim-friendly spa and wellness offerings.

ITC formulated the spa and wellness guidelines jointly with the Islamic Science University of Malaysia and AMSPA, benchmarking them against the SMIIC Halal Spa Standards adopted at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation level. It forms one of ITC’s key offerings under the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition programme, which also includes guidelines for Muslim-friendly tourist accommodation premises and travel operating businesses.

By introducing structured guidelines and training tailored specifically for spa operators, ITC aims to provide clear direction to the industry on service delivery and operational considerations. It also addresses privacy standards and guest experience enhancements that cater to Muslim travellers while remaining inclusive and commercially viable for the wider market.

Mohammad Faisal commented: “This collaboration marks an important milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s halal ecosystem through tourism.

“Wellness and spa services are part of the whole travel experience. By developing practical guidelines and training programmes, we are not only enhancing service quality but also building industry confidence in serving the Muslim market in a structured and professional manner.”

He said tourism plays a unique role within the halal economy as an integrator of multiple sectors.

“When travellers visit a destination, they engage with accommodation, retail, food services, financial services and wellness offerings. Ensuring that these components work cohesively strengthens the overall tourism experience,” he added.

ASEAN Tourism Awards 2023 - Malaysian Winners

10 February 2023 - The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from the 2nd to the 5th of February 2023, under the theme “Journey to Wonderful Destinations”, emphasises ASEAN's underlying strength and commitment to position 10 unique nations as one united destination in promoting intra-ASEAN and international travel.

A headline event of the ATF is the recognition and award of the prestigious ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards to 18 tourism businesses and stakeholders in the region. Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), and Datuk Hajah Saraya Arbi, Secretary General of MOTAC, attended the official announcement and awards ceremony on 5 February 2023.

The 10 ASEAN member countries deem tourism service standardisation as essential to improving the quality of tourism products and services and promoting responsible management among tourism businesses and stakeholders in the region to position ASEAN as an in-demand Quality Single Destination. This is in line with the ASEAN Strategic Tourism Plan 2016-2025, which states that “By 2025, ASEAN will be a quality tourism destination offering a unique, diverse ASEAN experience, and will be committed to responsible, sustainable, inclusive and balanced tourism development, so as to contribute significantly to the socioeconomic well-being of the ASEAN people.”

ASEAN Tourism Standards criteria and requirements, particularly in areas such as safety, security, health, cleanliness, environmental policy, amenities and facilities are essential to the overall travel experience. Service providers from the public and private entities are advised to follow ASEAN guidelines and standards as a key strategy for rebuilding better and regaining tourist trust and confidence.

The ASEAN tourism standards integrates and adapts various existing international and national standards, best practices, and guidelines, as well as ASEAN Member States protocols, to reflect common regional parameters.

In particular, cleanliness must be regarded as a basic service with a significant impact on the overall travel experience. Private sector industry players must change their attitudes towards the overall environment and cleanliness aspects, especially the cleanliness of public restrooms, to gain a competitive advantage. Therefore, businesses and operators are strongly urged to comply to these standards, which will bring their businesses to new heights and burnish the international image of Malaysian tourism.

ASEAN member countries were honoured in four (4) categories of ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023, including the 4th ASEAN Homestay Award, the 3rd ASEAN Community Based Tourism (CBT) Award, the 2nd ASEAN Public Toilet Award and the 2nd ASEAN Spa Services Award. These awards recognise and honour excellent ASEAN tourism businesses and destinations that comply to the aforementioned ASEAN Tourism Standards.

RM12 billion KL Wellness City set to spur medical tourism sector

The KL Wellness City mega project in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, is envisioned as a world-class medical and wellness township with a gross development value (GDV) of nearly RM12 billion.

According to Datuk Dr. Colin Lee, managing director of KL Wellness City Sdn Bhd (KLWC), the 10.73-hectare development will be the first in Southeast Asia to cultivate a lifestyle fully integrated with healthcare.

KLWC is the master developer and owner of KL Wellness City. The land was purchased in 2015 by the company from the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera, also known as the Armed Forces Fund Board.

The idea to develop the medical township was mooted by Lee, who began his career as a medical doctor from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

According to Lee, the development of the KL Wellness City project would take about 10 years, divided into two major phases.

Construction on phase one, which includes a 517-bed International Hospital and the Nobel Healthcare Park, began about six months ago and spans seven acres, he said.

According to Lee, the gross development cost (GDC) for the phase one development is around RM600 million.

"The International Hospital will be built in two stages. The first phase will include 517 beds and is expected to cost around RM360 million. Phase two will see the hospital expanded to around 1,000 beds. The Nobel Healthcare Park's GDC is estimated to be around RM230 million," he said.

Phase one will be completed by the end of 2024, and both the International Hospital and the Nobel Healthcare Park will open in early 2025, he said.

Nobel Healthcare Park will have a GDV of RM1 billion and three towers of medical and wellness suites, he said.

The medical suites, according to Lee, are built in accordance with Ministry of Health specifications and are designed in a modular format, allowing specialists to choose the ideal size for their practise.

The suites start at 223 square feet and they are selling from RM414,000.

The medical suites, according to Lee, are designed based on the core management team's own experience in the medical field.

"We have infused the design and elements that offer practising medical specialists the flexibility to optimise the use of space to suit their precise requirements and the freedom to make changes according to evolving needs.

"We are confident this will enhance the specialists' interest to own the suites as an investment in addition to running a practice here. We expect a take-up rate of 80 per cent, within the first three months of the first phase's official launch," he said.

Nobel Healthcare Park's wellness suites are fully equipped. The suites provide adaptable living spaces that are suitable for owner occupancy, home office use, or short-term stays such as step-down care and healthcare traveller accommodations.

These suites, which come in 268 sq ft and 386 sq ft sizes, start at RM338,000

Self-sustaining township with GBI-rated properties

Datuk Sri Dr. Vincent Tiew, KLWC executive director (branding, sales, and marketing), said that the International Hospital and Nobel Healthcare Park are pursuing Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

Tiew said GBI is a big deal for hospitals and healthcare components.

He also said that whatever the company builds in KL Wellness City will be one-of-a-kind: the International Hospital, which will be rebranded, will be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, and the healthcare mall, which we will developed under phase two, will be the first of its kind in the world.

"Generally speaking, you will not be able to build this type of medical township if you are a typical property developer. If you are a hospital-related organisation, you will not be constructing a city or a township. You will be extremely hospital- or medical-driven.

"What we are doing here is constructing an ecosystem that is fully integrated between five components. We have wellness, medical tourism, lifestyle (healthcare mall), a property component with serviced suites, lifestyle homes, retirement homes, and, most importantly, a true International Hospital.

"Why are we optimistic about the retirement home market? Because we will be the sole owners of our International Hospital. It is not a small facility. It will be huge, with 1,000 beds and 22 operating theatres. Overall, we are very optimistic because we believe we have the right product to market and the right people in the company to take it forward," Tiew said.

Tiew, who was previously the managing director of the Andaman Property Group of Companies, said that the healthcare mall in phase two development will include several proposed medical and hospital outfits, including a leading oncology centre (cancer centre) in Southeast Asia.

It will also include other components, such as a hotel and retail, to round out and improve the overall ecosystem.

"We believe KL Wellness City will be self-sustaining. This is something that everyone is looking forward to. Malaysia is known for having some of the best medical facilities in the world, and what we offer at KL Wellness City is one-of-a-kind. Furthermore, we have an ageing population that requires such facilities and treatment," he explained.

Tourism Malaysia Joins Virtual PATA Wellness And Luxury Travel Conference And Mart 2021

PUTRAJAYA, 21 October 2021 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) through its agency Tourism Malaysia is participating in the virtual PATA Wellness and Luxury Travel Conference and Mart 2021 from 21st to 22nd October 2021.

It builds upon the format of PATA Travel Mart, one of the longest-running trade shows in Asia Pacific. This targeted version offers a deeper look at specialised product offerings and forum topics to help the global community prepare for recovery after bearing the brunt of the impacts from Covid-19.

The travel industry is now shaped by new consumer priorities, hence boosting the wellness and luxury segment. The priority on health and wellbeing show that luxury travellers now demand unique experiences during their getaways and require tourism industry players to continuously pivot and innovate to grab the lucrative market share.

Tourism Malaysia aims to showcase Malaysia as the preferred destination for the wellness and luxury tourism market through this event by offering the discerning travellers Malaysia’s brands of premium and lifestyle experiences complemented by the rich multi-cultural society of diverse heritage and culture, unique cuisine, shopping, and world-class accommodation.

In line with the National Tourism Policy 2020-2030 and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals, Tourism Malaysia is also working towards promoting the Malaysia Truly Asia campaign by highlighting the country’s wellness and luxury segments through not only ecotourism, but also experiential tourism, as well as niche and luxurious tourism products.

Sunway splashes out US$60m on major facelift

Sunway City Kuala Lumpur plans US$60 million transformation of its flagship five-star hotel

Sunway City Kuala Lumpur has earmarked US$60 million to transform its flagship property, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, in what will mark the resort’s most extensive initiative in its 24-year history.

The revamp is part of the group’s drive to establish Malaysia’s first fully integrated township as Asia’s leading integrated resort complex and a regional tourism hub.

Scheduled to reopen in phases from March 2021, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa will feature 478 rooms, alongside a restaurant, six cascading waterfalls among two landscaped pools, and extensive family and health facilities.

Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa’s transformation takes its place alongside the family-focused Sunway Lagoon theme park which stretches over 35ha and six entertainment zones. For business visitors, the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre features 7,157m2of hi-tech space, flexible configurations and capacity to host some 4,000 delegates theatre-style or 6,000 for a cocktail reception for corporate events.

With design led by Nelson Yong, principal of Sunway Design, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa has rebuilt swathes of the resort and reimagined spaces. New family facilities, specialist suites, pool villas, technology with smartphone key entry and motion sensors, live online fitness coaching, chromotherapy showers and wellness lighting to assist sleeping which is powered by Sunway Medical Centre, are all integrated into the holistic experience.

As part of Sunway’s sustainability commitment, a vertical farm by FutureX will be a key source of ingredients for all restaurants, offering healthy and farm-fresh produce for guests. The FutureX Farm, led by Sunway Innovation Labs, is an urban farm located in the heart of Sunway City Kuala Lumpur where farming professionals, tech companies, researchers and young talent create solutions focused on food and agritech.

In minimising the hotel’s carbon footprint, a host of environmental measures will be introduced. Contactless check-in/out and digital hotel directories will eliminate the need for paper, while energy-saving air-conditioning systems and smart curtains will help to regulate room temperatures. Solar panels, motion-sensor LED lighting and advanced water technologies will further enhance efficiency. Plastic laundry bags have been abolished.
