Magika Studios Tarikan Eko-Pelancongan Dan Edutainment Baharu Di Selangpr

i. Persembahan “animatronics” dan audio visual yang menghidupkan watak-watak dongeng tempatan dan mesej pemeliharaan alam sekitar;

ii. Pencahayaan ‘immersive’ di hutan paya bakau;

iii. Pameran untuk memupuk perasaan sayang terhadap haiwan;

iv.

KRU reaches for a new universe

AFTER nearly three decades of shaping Malaysia and Asia's entertainment scene, the KRU Group is embarking on a new chapter.

Through its subsidiary, Kruniverse Sdn. Bhd., the company — best known for its pop music, films, and creative technology — is making its first foray into the hospitality and lifestyle sectors.

With an ambitious RM50 million investment in the Klang Valley, KRU aims to redefine what a tourism destination can be.

This project stands out from conventional hotels not just for its size, but for its "KRU DNA" — a fusion of art, technology, and immersive experiences.

Kruniverse aims to create more than just accommodation; it wants to craft a journey where travellers can connect with interactive entertainment, artificial intelligence, and Malaysia's rich cultural heritage.

Strategic partnership

Recognising that the hospitality industry requires robust governance, Kruniverse has partnered with Unity Trust Berhad to act as an independent strategic regulator.

Unity Trust will ensure that the project is built on a foundation of corporate governance, transparency, and investor protection.

Tengku Datuk Dr Hishammuddin Zaizi, president of Kruniverse's board of directors, explained: "As a new arm of the KRU Group, Kruniverse is positioned at the right time and place to expand its hospitality offerings by leveraging KRU's intellectual property, AI-driven technology, and the strength of its brand."

Unity Trust's role is not merely symbolic; it has a fiduciary responsibility to oversee capital flow, monitor regulatory compliance, and ensure every process supports long-term growth.

Syed Sadiq Obaidi Albar Syed Hamid, chief executive officer (CEO) of Unity Trust, sees this collaboration as a major step for Kruniverse.

"Kruniverse is evolving from a family-owned business into a modern, data-driven organisation. This is the foundation for preparing them for a future public listing," he said.

Entertainment-powered hospitality

While KRU has long been synonymous with blockbuster films and pop music, its latest vision is on a different scale.

Two strategic sites in Shah Alam and Klang have been identified to host lifestyle hubs that will combine hotels, event spaces, interactive entertainment, and business facilities.

These developments are envisioned as "mini smart cities" operating 24 hours a day.

Datuk Norman Abdul Halim, CEO of KRU Corp, emphasised that the vision is about more than profit.

"We want to build a sustainable ecosystem that empowers local communities. Tourists come for the experience, but more importantly, local residents gain access to jobs, business opportunities, and modern facilities," he said.

The RM50 million investment will be rolled out over three years, utilising a combination of traditional and innovative financing.

Kruniverse's first project is scheduled to launch in November, marking a new era for KRU as it transitions from an entertainment producer to a pioneer in the hospitality sector.

Bringing 'Magika' to life

Kruniverse is also developing a theme park based on the hit fantasy musical film, 'Magika'.

Directed by Edry Abdul Halim, the 2010 film became a cultural phenomenon, featuring stars like Diana Danielle, Ziana Zain, and Maya Karin, and went on to win Best Picture at the 23rd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM23).

Norman explained that the idea for a theme park was born from fans' repeated requests for a sequel.

Instead of producing another film, KRU saw an opportunity to create a permanent physical platform to keep the story alive.

"So many people wanted 'Magika 2', but at the same time, we needed a proper platform for promotion. Social media alone isn't enough.

"That's why we planned a theme park. Contracts have already been signed, and we are targeting a launch in May," he said during the Kruniverse-Unity Trust partnership ceremony at Putrajaya Wetlands Park.

The 'Magika' theme park, located in the Klang Valley, is already under construction and on schedule.

The core structure is in place, with strategic partners preparing tenders for electricity supply.

Infrastructure work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with asset installation scheduled for January 2026.

Unlike conventional amusement parks with extreme rides, 'Magika' will focus on "edutainment" — educating while entertaining.

Visitors will be transported into a world that revives mythical characters and Malay folklore, offering a unique cultural attraction that sets it apart from international parks dominated by Western icons.

This combination of lifestyle hubs, hospitality ventures, and the 'Magika' theme park marks a transformative phase for the KRU Group.

With the support of Unity Trust, KRU is demonstrating how art, technology, and business can converge to create new value for tourists, local communities, and the national economy.

Kudos to a pop music trio which began in the 1990s!

Malaysia’s travel trade unites for Selangor Super Savers 2025 campaign

Tourism Selangor’s Chua Yee Ling (fourth from left) joins Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners’ Shaharuddin M Saaid (third from left) and Malaysian Association of Hotels Selangor Chapter’s Jasmine Abdullah Heng (third from right) in the launch of Selangor Super Savers 2025

The travel trade has come together in a united, strategic move to bolster Selangor’s tourism sector in line with its Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign.

The Malaysian Association of Hotels Selangor Chapter (MAHSEL) and the Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) launched the Selangor Super Savers 2025 (SSS2025) campaign last month, with strong support and participation from the Malaysian Association of Theme Parks & Family Attractions and the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association.

This initiative aligns with Tourism Selangor’s Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 campaign under the theme, Surprising Selangor, which aims to attract eight million international and domestic visitors to Selangor and generate RM11.7 billion (US$2.6 billion) in tourism receipts.

Jasmine Abdullah Heng, chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels Selangor Chapter, said: “SSS2025 aims to position Selangor as a must-visit destination by fostering collaboration among key industry players, including hotel operators, theme parks, attractions, and shopping malls.

“The campaign offers exclusive promotions and benefits to visitors, enhancing their overall travel experience in the state.”

The campaign was officially launched by Chua Yee Ling, chief executive officer of Tourism Selangor, who also unveiled the campaign’s dedicated digital portal, selangorsupersavers.com. The platform enables travellers to access a range of stay packages, including a minimum of 10 per cent off Best Available Rates, F&B credits, and late check-outs until 15.00.

Additionally, the campaign extends up to 10 per cent discounts on meeting and wedding packages across more than 20 participating hotels in Selangor. Guests staying in any of the participating hotels can also enjoy perks and discounts at participating theme parks and shopping malls in Selangor.

All offers, packages, and discounts are valid for six months from March 1, unless otherwise stated and subject to partners’ terms and conditions.

Shaharuddin M Saaid, executive director of MAHO, shared that the listing on the website is not yet complete, as more participating hotels and malls in Selangor have registered their interest to join the campaign.

He added that both MAHSEL and MAHO are working on Phase 2 of SSS2025, which will see further support from industry players, including airlines. The campaign will run until the end of 2025.

Industry players are encouraged to participate in Phase 2 of the initiative, which is expected to attract additional stakeholders, including airlines, and extend benefits until the end of 2025. This campaign serves as a lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which aims to welcome 26.1 million tourist arrivals and generate RM97.6 billion in domestic spending.

i-City unveils SkyCity Tower, Malaysia's tallest glass water slide

SHAH ALAM: i-City, Malaysia's premier digital city, has unveiled SkyCity Tower, the country's highest glass water slide standing at 60 metres.

This new attraction, coupled with the existing tourism products in i-City, is expected to play a crucial role in the success of Visit Selangor 2025 by drawing about five million local and international tourists next year, said Tengku Datuk Seri Ahmad Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, chairman of i-City Selangor.

He believes that i-City's efforts will help Selangor surpass its seven million tourist target in 2025.

Tengku Ahmad Shah said that i-City has a long-standing reputation for being at the forefront of urban development and tourism in Selangor.

He noted that i-City plays a vital role in supporting the tourism industry through leisure and hospitality activities that reflect a cosmopolitan lifestyle.

"Today, i-City serves as a hub where local businesses can thrive, benefiting from the influx of tourists and the vibrant economy it supports. The One Shah Alam, One Destination initiative launched last year is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting the local tourism industry.

"It showcases the best of Shah Alam in one destination, and SkyCity will continue the impact of this programme for the local tourism industry," he said.

Recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia as a prime destination for both international and local tourists, i-City consistently provides unique and memorable experiences to visitors worldwide, he said during the ground-breaking ceremony of SkyCity Tower today.

The event was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Tengku Ahmad Shah said that the 60-metre SkyCity tower, featuring a 600-meter glass slide, will soon become a distinctive feature of Shah Alam's skyline.

He added that this new landmark will not only enhance the cityscape but also attract tourists from near and far, further boosting the appeal of i-City and Selangor as top-tier destinations.

"Our City of Digital Lights, with over one million LED lights, has been celebrated by CNN Travel as one of the world's top 25 brightest and most colourful places globally. This accolade is a testament to our dedication to infusing technology into creating attractions that captivate and inspire," he said.

SkyCity is set to open on Dec 11, 2024, coinciding with the birthday of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Tengku Ahmad Shah said that this auspicious occasion will not only honour the legacy and leadership of the Selangor Ruler but also mark the start of "Visit Selangor Year 2025."

"With the tagline, Swim in Sky. Fly on Water, we aim to celebrate the opening of SkyCity in December by benefitting some 2,000 people with the experience of swimming in the sky as they glide down the 600-meter glass slide from the height of a 60-metre tower," he said.

Meanwhile, Amiruddin said that Selangor is working diligently to enhance the state's tourism.

He hoped that SkyCity would become a highlight of Selangor's tourism campaigns.

"i-City is targeting 2,000 tourists to try this glass slide on its opening day. If this momentum continues into next year, I am confident that i-City, with the attractiveness of SkyCity, City of Digital Lights, DoubleTree by Hilton i-City, Best Western Hotel, and Central i-City Mall, will be able to become a solid contributor to the success of Visit Selangor 2025," he said.

Gamuda Luge to support Selangor's 7.0mil tourist target: Menteri Besar

image: Skyline Luge Kuala Lumpur

RAWANG: Gamuda Bhd's Gamuda Luge Gardens is reinforcing Selangor's position as a premier tourist destination, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said.

He said the addition of Gamuda Luge Gardens, featuring the first-ever Skyline Luge in Malaysia and a vibrant entertainment hub in the northern Klang Valley corridor, is expected to boost tourist arrivals in the state.

"Last year, Selangor welcomed 6.54 million tourists. With these new attractions, it supports the state to achieving our target of 7. 0 million tourist arrivals for Visit Selangor Year 2025.

This development not only enhances the state's unique tourism offerings but also aligns with our broader strategy to attract leading international brands and elevate the overall visitor experience in Selangor," Amiruddin said at the launch of Gamuda Luge Gardens here today.

Gamuda Luge Gardens is located in the popular Gamuda Gardens township, featuring a variety of attractions designed for family fun.

This includes the renowned Skyline Luge Kuala Lumpur and the family friendly FunPark and waterplay attraction, Big Bucket Splash.

Gamuda Bhd chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said since its soft launch in December 2023, the entertainment hub has quickly become a landmark destination in the northern Klang Valley corridor, attracting over 420,000 visitors including overseas visitors.

"This underscores our dedication to good placemaking for our community by creating places where they can be out in nature, get to know one another and ultimately to form close-knitted communities that support one another," he said.

He added that as Gamuda Gardens continues to mature with a current population of over 8,000 residents, the company is looking forward to welcoming new additions and strategic partnerships like Skyline Luge to add value to the residents.

"Besides leisure and entertainment, we also look forward to having more food and beverage (F&B) operators for our commercial developments, clinics and pharmacies, schools and lifestyle amenities that will help enrich the life of our community," he said.

The launch signifies a new era of excitement at the township, with the unveiling of two new attractions, signifying the full operations of FunPark.

These include the ferris wheel Eye of Gardens, officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the tallest and largest ferris wheel in a theme park, and the thrilling Vroomerang ride.

With these additions, FunPark now offers a complete experience, complementing its existing attractions: Jellycup Twist, Fruity Frenzy, Jumpshot, Carousel, and the 10,000-square-foot Big Bucket Splash waterplay area.

As FunPark and Skyline Luge Kuala Lumpur ignite the excitement within Gamuda Luge Gardens, the next chapter unfolds with The Atrium.

This mixed-use development plot, located adjacent to Skyline Luge and FunPark, will be unveiled in phases, boasting a diverse tenant mix comprising F&B, retail, entertainment, and more, to cater to the thriving community at Gamuda Gardens and its surrounding vicinity.
