India Among Top Ten Tourist Markets For Malaysia - Nazri

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- India has emerged as one of the top ten tourist markets for Malaysia, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

He said 770,108 tourists from India were recorded in 2014, a significant increase of 18.3 percent compared to 2013.

"Malaysia has become their choice for leisure and shopping, corporate meetings, incentive trips, filming movies and weddings," he said at The Global Malayalee (TGM) Extravaganza Nite of Awards and Celebration 2015, here Saturday night.

Also present was All Malaysia Malayalee Association (AMMA) president Datuk Suseela Menon.

Mohamed Nazri said Malaysia had also launced the Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFest 2015) campaign in Mumbai and Chennai in conjunction with the ministry's sales mission to India early this year which covered five cities namely New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.

"Recognizing India as a strong component of our local business and tourism, Malaysia has supported and witnessed various Indian concerts, events and awards over the past few years, the most recent being the International India film Academy Awards (IIFA)," he said.

Mohamed Nazri said, hosting the TGM truly represented the country's competence and expertise to hold globally-acclaimed events to cater to the region.

The event hosted by (AMMA) was held in conjunction with Tourism Malaysia 2015 Year of Festivals and intended to unite Malayalees from around the world to celebrate the achievements of the community, while reliving the richness of the Malayalee heritage, culture, tradition and language.

Mohamed Nazri said, this inaugural event over three days including a Symposium, Awards Gala Dinner and authentic Kerala Sadhya would be an example for other communities to organise similar events.

"With around 400,000 Malayalees in Malaysia, AMMA together with its affiliates all over the country, did numerous social activites not only for the Malayalee community but all Malaysians," he said.

During the event, 24 notable Malayalee high-achievers received awards for their outstanding achievement in their respective fields such as technology, science, and performing arts.

Among them were President and Chief Executive Officer Siemens Malaysia, Prakash Chandran, AirAsia Group Chief, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and singer-songwriter, Reshmonu.

The development of Putrajaya as a contemporary administrative capital city of Malaysia was inspired by the need to project her unique image of Islamic heritage and its values. The Malay Heritage Museum

The Malay Heritage Museum features the uniqueness of Malay heritage with its fantastic collection of textiles, apparel, weapons and household equipment. Some interesting things to discover: the Malays had used the footnoting system in their manuscripts more than 300 years ago; a mind-mapping concept similar to Tony Buzan’s was already in use by the Malays for more than 200 years; the cindai cloth infused with healing herbs had probably saved Hang Jebat during his scuffle with Hang Tuah; and the Malay invention of the gobek api, a device that combines concepts of physics, chemistry, and biology, pressure, compression and friction, which was in use about 100 years before the creation of matches in the West.

The Malay Heritage Museum, within the compounds of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), also has four traditional Malay houses aged about 100 years old which can be explored to learn about Malay craftsmanship and architecture.

Overall, the museum promises visitors many more interesting finds about the history and heritage of the Malays, and is a great way to spend an afternoon back in time! Tours in English by the curator can be arranged upon request. Tickets are RM2/person and the museum opens daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and is closed on Sundays.

The Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge is an annual off-shore fishing competition under the auspices of the Pahang State Government. It is jointly organized by Tioman Development Authority Culture Malaysia, in collaboration with the Malaysian Angling Association.

The competition is only for catches of sailfish and marlin, and contestants are guided by the rules of conduct based on international standards set by the Billfish Foundation and The International Game Fish Association. “Catch and Release” is compulsory whereby after capture, the fish is unhooked, photographed and returned to the sea before it experiences exhaustion or injury.

The event is held at Lanjut, Kuala Rompin, about 125 kilometres south of Kuantan in the state of Pahang. The area is known as the “Billfish Capital of Asia’’ where sailfish and marlin spend much of their time cruising the seas off Kuala Rompin during their active migration season in the months of March through September each year.

The billfish at Kuala Rompin are not big in size but you can’t deny its beauty, incredible fighting spirit, breath-taking high leaps, somersaults and tail dances. Both participant and spectator will enjoy this high-level action-packed event of spectacular game fishing!

Saturday Night Fever the Musical

This brand new production of Saturday Night Fever, one of the most loved dance stories of all time, is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees including the classics Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, Jive Talking, You Should Be Dancing and How Deep is Your Love? Years later, it premiered at London’s West End in 1998 and New York’s Broadway in 1999.

Some Malaysian fans have already experienced the musical when, back in 2004, the Australian production made it to Istana Budaya with a sold out show. This 2015 production will be imbued with a slight contemporary edge while retaining the film’s grittiness and realistic portrayal of the disco era and the entertainment value of its music and dance moves.

101BESTBEACHES.COM Features Top Malaysian Beaches

PUTRAJAYA, 22 April 2015: Beautiful beaches and islands are in abundance in Malaysia. Tourists can now make better choices on which one to go by visiting www.101bestbeaches.com/malaysia, which lists 15 of the best beaches in Malaysia, according to famous beach critic and conservationist Brad Farmer.

Among those featured on the site, which was launched on 10 April, include Pangkor Island, Perak; Batu Feringghi Beach, Penang; Coral Bay and Pasir Panjang Beach, Terengganu; Juara Beach, Pahang; Desaru Beach, Johor; Mabul Island and Mantanani Islands, Sabah; and Damai Beach, Sarawak.

This is the first time Malaysia’s beaches are being assessed and examined firsthand by a qualified and internationally renowned beach expert. Farmer rates the beaches on a variety of criteria, such as budget, scenic views, activities, ease of travel, conservation efforts, and the pristine condition of the beaches.

Farmer has been writing bestselling books on beaches for over 30 years and he was a former Senate Adviser on coastal issues in Australia. He has travelled to over 35 beach nations to explore and write about beaches, coastal environments and seaside communities.

The website is expected to attract more local and foreign travellers to visit beaches and islands in Malaysia, which is timely, as the country is celebrating the Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015.

Last year, Malaysia received a total of 27.4 million tourists. This year, the Government has set a target of 29.4 million tourist arrivals, with RM89 billion in tourist receipts.

M'sia Confident Of 29.4 Mil Tourist Arrivals This Year - Nazri

PUTRAJAYA, March 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is confident of attracting 29.4 million tourist arrivals this year, in conjunction with the Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 (MyFEST 2015), says Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

In view of this, he said the target could be achieved with a revenue of RM89 billion if the tourism and culture industry players continued to promote Malaysia's great diversity of food in a holistic and relevant approach.

"The private sector and government must work hand-in-hand to ensure the success of this campaign by the ministry, in order to successfully generate more revenue for the country," he said at the launch of D'Tandoor International Group of Restaurants new menu here today.

His speech was read out by the ministry's deputy secretary-general, Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah.

Being a prime contributor to the nation's socio-economic development, Mohamed Nazri said the tourism receipts had increased significantly to RM72 billion last year as compared to RM65.4 billion in 2013.

Through D'Tandoor's global network, he said strategic partnership would provide limitless opportunities to reach out to an unprecedented audience.

"It is for this reason the ministry has embarked on strategic partnership with D'Tandoor, an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy for the restaurant to showcase the best of what we have to offer during the MyFest 2015."

He noted that D'Tandoor, a 100 per cent Bumiputra-owned company would play a role as an intermediary for the tourism industry through their restaurants to promote 'Food Tourism' in the labeling and marketing of Malaysia through its food.

Overlooking the Putrajaya lake, patrons can not only enjoy delicious North Indian food but also Malaysian and Arab cuisine while taking in the beautiful view of the majestic Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin mosque across the lake.

D'Tandoor Food Industries Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Abdul Malik Abdullah said the Putrajaya outlet was the 17th restaurant opened by the company.

"The restaurant has at least 20 types of naan bread and their speciality dish is the 24-hour roasted whole leg of lamb called Raan Srikandi, which can serve six to eight persons," he said.
