KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Asean celebrities, media and tour agents are set for a week-long exploration of Malaysia's tourism activities, in the run up to Visit Malaysia 2014.
A total of 107 participants will enjoy city tours, experience rail tourism, witness cultural shows and join traditional activities through the Asean Explore Quest Malaysia 2013, happening until Nov 17.
During a press conference for the event Monday, Tourism Malaysia director general Datuk Mirza Mohammad Taiyab said of the 28 million tourist arrivals expected next year, 20.6 million are expected to be from Asean countries. "Through this event, we hope to showcase the best of Malaysia to participants so they can promote tourism here with more confidence.
"Participants will be taken from Kuala Lumpur to Perak by train, where they will visit Kellie's Castle and later experience homestay in Bukit Gantang, before going by bus to Langkawi," he said.
Among the Asean celebrities involved are Vietnamese singer and supermodel Phan Le Ai Phuong, Filipino television host and choreographer Sheenalyn Vera Cruz and Myanmarese actress Chaw Chaw Yu Mon Kyaw Tint.
Mirza also said Perak was chosen because participants could experience the fruit season while at Bukit Gantang, while Langkawi has been featured prominently as an attraction. The Star and Star Radio Group are the official media partners for the event, while Malaysia Airlines is the official airline, and AirAsia is the official low cost carrier.
