AirAsia X turns six with much pomp and grandeur
SEPANG: The Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) here was in a mood for celebration as AirAsia X commemorated its sixth anniversary.
The board of directors, management and staff of the long-haul wing of the AirAsia Group converged at their base amid upbeat music, performances and a cake-cutting ceremony.
As AirAsia X chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani had put it, the airline has got much to celebrate. “When we first started, people said it was impossible for us to go long haul on a low fare. Yet, we have shown that we have survived despite the many challenges that came our way.
“It is the unrelenting spirit of not giving up that has brought us here,” he said at the celebration which was attended by its chairman Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.
Azran said that greater expansion is in the pipeline for the airline, including the delivery of seven aircraft next year to add to its current 18 fleets. According to him, the number of aircraft belonging to AirAsia X is expected to double to 32 in the next four years to serve more international routes in the future.
AirAsia X has reportedly flown more than 10 million passengers since 2007. Currently, the airline flies to 18 destinations, including China, Australia, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
