Learn About Malaysia's Monarchical Institution At Special Exhibition, Kuala Lumpur Royal Museum

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The public now has the opportunity to know more about the functions of the institution of monarchy in the country's administration through a special exhibition held at the Throne Room of the Royal Museum (old Istana Negara), here, from today until Jan 19, 2014.

The exhibition is themed, "Majlis Raja-Raja: Penaung Legasi Raja-Raja Melayu" (Conference of Rulers: Patron of Legacy of the Malay Rulers).

This is the first exhibition organised by the Malaysia Department of Museums, Kuala Lumpur Royal Museum and Office of the Keeper of the Rulers Seal after the old National Palace was made the Royal Museum and opened to the public on Feb 1, this year.

Department of Museums director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ismail said the exhibition featured selected artefacts and documents which had not been seen before by the general public. "These include the ballot papers, ballot box and receptacle for burning the ballot papers used in the previous selections among the Malay rulers for the post of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as the head of state, and the post of Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"Visitors will also be able to see the actual programme book and rule book used by the Conference of Rulers, the Royal Education Award gold medal, the royal seal and more," he told a news conferene at the museum Monday.

Also present were the Keeper of the Rulers Seal and secretary to tbe Conference of Rulers, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, and Royal Museum head, Hayati Zawawi.

Syed Danial said the public basically knew about the country's institution of monarchy, but many did not fully understand the real functions of this institution in Malaysia's system of constitutional monarchy in ensuring democracy, peace and harmony in the country.

The exhibiiton opens daily from 9am to 5pm. The entrance fee is RM5 for Malaysian adults, RM2 for students and children aged 6 to 12, RM3 for senior citizens and the disabled, and RM10 for foreign tourists.
