Sri Sutra Travel to debut new online booking platforms for multiple parties

Syed: all platforms sit on one system, which makes navigation easy for users

Malaysia-based Sri Sutra Travel is set to launch this May a series of booking platforms aimed to help government bodies, corporate organisations, commercial businesses and travel trade in their travel product acquisition.

Known as GovBizTravel, CorporateBizTravel, SMEBizTravel and B2BTravelSolutions respectively, these platforms will utilise a cutting edge travel solution powered by TravelCompute, which is Sutra Group’s in-house one-stop travel technology solution provider.

The B2BTravelSolution platform acts as a ‘travel office box’ on a platform for the travel trade. A user will be able to use the platform for airline ticketing, hotel reservations, tour package purchases as well as all other related travel arrangements. Included within the platform is a user-friendly back office system.

The GovBizTravel booking platform will cater solely to government ministries and authorities, and will make available three payment options for users – via warrant, local order or credit card.

The CorporateBizTravel platform and the SMEBizTravel platform have basic features of an online booking engine where users are able to book and purchase air tickets, hotel stays, airport transfers, car rental and ancillary services such as visas, baggage insurance and travel insurance among others, all on a single platform without leaving the booking page.

The CorporateBizTravel platform, however, will boast extended features such as traveller profiling, travel approvals, travel policies and detailed analytics and reporting.

Syed Razif Al-Yahya, group managing director and CEO at Sutra Group of Companies, shared: “These platforms are uniquely different in comparison to what is out there, as all required travel arrangements are solely created within one (system). The user does not need to navigate to other platforms (which reduces) confusion and delays.”

The platform itself is a creation of Octraves Technology, which is within the SUTRA Group of Companies, built in-house and is managed by its chief architect and engineers.

Tourism Malaysia Organises CORPORATE TRAVEL BAZAAR 2019 To Stimulate Growth In Domestic Tourism Industry

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 OCTOBER 2019 – YB Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia today officiated the seventh edition of the Corporate Travel Bazaar (CTB2019) at the Pullman Bangsar Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The programme is organised with the aim to increase awareness on domestic business tourism among the corporate and public sectors in Malaysia.

The one-day programme, which was first initiated in 2009, serves as a platform for business-to-business (B2B) dealings between sellers and buyers in a bid to promote local products to both public and private sectors. This is in line with Tourism Malaysia’s mission to emphasise the importance of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) sector, as well as to stimulate the growth of domestic tourism among the local business community.

“We would like to attract the local business community to host their corporate events such as meetings, seminars, conventions, retreats, team building, and incentive trips here in Malaysia,” said the minister during the press conference for the programme.

The participants of this programme consist of the “sellers” - the industry players such as travel agencies, hotel and resort owners, transportation providers, training consultants and tour operators; as well as the “buyers” – comprising of private corporations, government ministries and associations in Malaysia.

Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi expressed his hopes that the CTB2019 will further increase domestic travels among the various government agencies as well as corporations in Malaysia. Similar to the previous editions, CTB2019 will showcase travel incentives packages, corporate family day programme, team building programmes, business tourism packages and many others.

The minister informed the media that the CTB2019 managed to get the participation of 120 sellers and 400 buyers with target sales revenue of RM800,000.

“The MICE packages developed by the participants offer complete venue facilities, excellent quality of services, as well as strategic locations which are close to various tourist attractions,” he added.

The previous travel bazaar was held in Penang in 2014 and managed to attract 70 sellers and 250 buyers as participants.

Corporate travel up despite rise in travel risk perception

A study conducted by medical and security specialists International SOS and Control Risks indicated that 72 per cent of over 1,000 corporate travel decision-makers perceive travel risk to have increased this year.

Despite the rise in perceived risk in travel, 44 per cent reported an increase in business travel activity in 2016 and more than 50 per cent expect further increase in 2017.

“Events of 2016 have resulted in a sense of increasing challenges in travel to places once thought secure. While risks are changing, organisations must ensure their actions to mitigate those changes are proportionate, and based on reality and not perception,” said Rob Walker, security specialist at International SOS and Control Risks.

“Issues like healthcare provision and road safety, which account for over 70 per cent of the assistance services we have provided in the past year, can often be obscured by more prominent, but less likely issues. With many organisations increasing their business travel activity, it is essential for decision-makers to be able to communicate that objective advice to their people, including in an actual crisis.”

The report further revealed that 80 per cent of organisations surveyed have modified their travel itineraries in the past year due to health and security concerns.

Meanwhile, 48 per cent of respondents state that their investment in travel risk mitigation has increased over the past year, and 47 per cent believe this will increase further in the coming year.

“Travellers are much less likely to encounter unexpected or avoidable problems if they plan ahead. Using objective advice to prepare travellers, and by staying up to date on any changes and how they might affect plans, will further reduce, both the likelihood of people experiencing problems, and the extent of the impact,” added Walker.

India to be sixth largest business travel market by 2019: GBTA

India will jump four spots to become the world’s sixth largest corporate travel market in the next five years, based on forecasts in a Visa-sponsored report by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Foundation.

GBTA also expects India to leapfrog Brazil this year and surpass both South Korea and Italy in 2017.

This latest semi-annual GBTA BTI Outlook India report projects a growth of 10.7 per cent in business travel spending for the market in 2016 followed by another 10.2 per cent the following year.

Domestic spending would be the key driver of India's overall business travel performance, which is expected to grow 11.5 per cent in 2016 and 10.3 per cent in 2017, the report stated.

With international outbound travel being more volatile, GBTA reckons global travel spend will move forward just 3.1 per cent in 2016. But an improved global economy and brightening prospects for increased trade activity will help push international outbound spending further forward in 2017, by a projected 9 per cent.

Commenting on the results, Gaurav Sundaram, GBTA India regional director, said: “If it continues on its current path, India is poised to be a world leader in business travel for decades to come.

“The growth rate of business travel in India is on par with other leading industries in the country, showing once again how business travel is playing an important role as a driver of economic growth and jobs.”

Corporate Travel Bazaar Penang Attracts Business Tourists In The Northern Region

PENANG, 1 October 2014 – Tourism Malaysia is targeting RM2.5 million in sales revenue of domestic packages at its sixth edition of Corporate Travel Bazaar (CTB) which will be held at Eastin Hotel in Penang on 16 October 2014.

The CTB is organised to promote MICE packages to the domestic corporate market. Among the packages offered to visitors include travel incentive packages, corporate family day programmes, team building programmes, business tourism packages, and many others.

“Due to the positive response of previous editions, Tourism Malaysia has decided to organise this programme twice a year and Penang would be our second venue this year following a fruitful fifth edition held in Johor Bahru last August,” said Deputy Director General of Tourism Malaysia Dato’ Haji Azizan Noordin. He added that the fourth edition of the CTB in 2013 managed to attract as many as 73 sellers and 380 buyers with a total sale value of RM2,280,788.

Dato’ Haji Azizan hoped that the CTB would help create awareness on the flourishing business tourism in Malaysia among the corporate and public sectors in the northern region. “We would like to attract the local business community to host their corporate events such as meetings, seminars, conventions, retreats, and incentive trips within Malaysia,” he added.

He said that the CTB programme was in line with Tourism Malaysia’s mission to emphasise the importance of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) sector, as well as stimulate the growth of domestic tourism among the local business community.

“The MICE packages developed by the participants offer complete venue facilities, excellent quality of service, as well as strategic locations which are close to various tourist attractions,” he said, adding that he hoped the CTB would increase domestic travels among the various government agencies as well as corporations in Malaysia.

The one-day programme will involve business-to-business (B2B) dealings between sellers and buyers from the corporate sectors in the northern region.
The targeted participants of this programme are the industry players from all over the country, such as travel agencies, hotel and resort owners, transportation providers and tour operators.

Tourism Malaysia is aiming for the participation of 70 tourism operators and 500 buyers for the coming CTB in Penang.

The one-day programme will involve business-to-business (B2B) dealings not only between sellers and buyers from the corporate sectors in the southern region, but also from Singapore and Pulau Batam due to their close proximity to the state of Johor.

“We would like to attract the local business community as well as those from our neigbouring countries to host their corporate events such as meetings, seminars, conventions, retreats, and incentive trips here in Malaysia,” explains Tourism Malaysia’s Director General, Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab at the pre-launch press conference at the Puteri Pacific Hotel here today.

PENANG, 3 Oct 2013: The fourth edition of Corporate Travel Bazaar (CTB) organised by Tourism Malaysia will take place at the Eastin Hotel in Penang from 8 to 9 October, which also marks the first time the event is being held outside the Klang Valley.

The travel bazaar aims to promote corporate travel packages to the domestic business market. Among the packages offered are incentive travel packages, corporate family day programmes, team building programmes and business travel packages.

A total of 73 sellers from all over Malaysia will be taking part in the travel bazaar. They include tour operators, hotel and resort operators, transportation providers, training consultants and product owners.

The two-day event will involve business to business (B2B) meetings between tourism operators (sellers) and public and private sectors (buyers) from Kedah and Penang.

According to the Deputy Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, YB Senator Dato’ Maznah bt Mazlan, the Corporate Travel Bazaar is in line with Tourism Malaysia’s effort to stimulate the growth of domestic tourism and create awareness on the importance of the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) sector.

“We hope that this travel bazaar will help encourage our local business community to organise their meetings, seminars, conventions, retreats and travel incentives in their own country,” said Dato’ Maznah in a press conference for the pre-launching of the event at the Eastin Hotel today.

“The MICE packages developed by the participants offer modern facilities, high quality services and strategic locations,” she added.

The Corporate Travel Bazaar was previously held at Grand Bluewave in Shah Alam in 2012, Empire Hotel in Subang (2011) and Hilton Hotel in Petaling Jaya (2009).

More corporates flying LCCs

Companies' continued quest to keep travel costs down has resulted in a greater adoption of budget flights among business travellers.

A Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) report this year indicated that business travellers would increasingly use LCCs in 2013, with 34 per cent of travel managers in Asia-Pacific looking to budget airlines to optimise savings.

Nandan Bhatia, head of Britannia Industries India, said: “According to our company’s policy, we have to book (seats with) the lowest possible fare, so we have to look at LCCs.”

Abhimanya Chettri, manager of Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions India, said: “We have been using LCCs because their prices can be 30 to 40 per cent lower (than full-service airlines).”

Fred Seow, vice president for marketing of Asiatravel, said: “Sometimes the total difference in fares can be quite significant and LCCs today also ply the same routes as legacy carriers. Meetings and incentives today are held by organisations of all sizes, types and budgets.”

Nonetheless, the CWT report highlighted that companies need to consider numerous factors, such as less frequent flight schedules, flights operating from secondary airports, as well as the costs and risks related to bookings outside of GDSs.

Akbar A Shareef, managing director and chief executive of Rakaposhui Tours Pakistan, cited seat availability as his reason for not using LCCs, while Sunil Shekhar Gupta, regional procurement manager of Freescale Semiconductor India, said his company would not use LCCs to fly its VIPs as it does not “look good”.

LCCs’ availability largely outside the GDS platforms is not an issue for Chettri: “We will usually book directly with LCCs, and since we are buying in bulk with them, there are terms and conditions we can negotiate as well.”

An Abacus survey this year has revealed similar findings, with almost three-quarters of respondents seeing more clients adopt budget airlines to tighten corporate travel spend, mostly due to policies governing the choice of lowest fare (77 per cent), but also for alternative flight times (40 per cent) and data capture (40 per cent). To ease the booking process for clients, Abacus is working with LCCs to make all their fares available on its platform.

Meanwhile, AirAsia will be launching a travel programme for business travellers later this week, according to its spokesperson.

MCI, Console Communications merge to form MCI Malaysia

Global association, communications and event management company MCI recently merged with Malaysian professional congress organiser, Console Communications, for a stronger hold on the growing Malaysian MICE market.

Commenting on the creation of MCI Malaysia, Yap Shook Fung, director of Console Communications, said: “It is a natural step for Console to join a big global leader like MCI. We believe it will help in bringing more international events to Malaysia and my team and I are excited to be part of the MCI global network.”

Robin Lokerman, president – MCI Asia-Pacific, said MCI wanted to expand to Malaysia and build its corporate business in the country. “Malaysia is a growing MICE destination and many of our clients are expressing an interest in Kuala Lumpur and other cities. With Console, we have found a very experienced team to build our business and support our clients.”

Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau CEO, Zulkefli Sharif, called the merger a “timely” one, given the “rapid development of the business events industry and the increase in awareness of Malaysia as one of the major players in the industry”.

“With Console’s strong foothold in the local business events industry and MCI’s global networking and expertise, we believe this merger will be a catalyst to the industry, bringing more prestigious events to Malaysia’s emerging and dynamic business events industry,” he added.

Console, established in 2004, has been managing large-scale conferences in Malaysia and abroad, including Water Malaysia 2013, the 10th Asia-Pacific Conference on Human Genetics 2012, and Borneo Water & Wastewater Exhibition 2012.

Malaysia a draw for corporate tourists

PETALING JAYA: Besides leisure tourism, Malaysia is gaining reputation as a corporate travel draw as well. Business travel industry experts say the country held many advantages to excel in corporate tourism, with efficient infrastructure being a main plus point.
Sunway Travel Sdn Bhd CEO Jeremiah Lim said the cost of hosting events in Malaysia was comparatively lower. “Malaysia's very good infrastructure and diversity of food are major advantages,” he said at the opening of GlobalStar 11th Annual Conference in Bandar Sunway yesterday. He added that the not-too-rigid visa guidelines was also another positive point.
Delegates from 75 countries are here for the three-day conference, which is being hosted by Malaysia for the first time. With the theme “Transform-Inform-Perform”, presenters and keynote speakers will share various insights and experiences on developing the business travel industry. Malaysia Airlines is one of the local participants.
“When the conference delegates arrived last week, they already experienced these wow' factors in terms of our tourist destinations, infrastructure and cultural offerings,” Lim said.
GlobalStar Travel Management chairman Matt Cummings said corporate customers were constantly on the lookout for new destinations to host incentive meetings. “To get as much as they can for the money they are spending ... Malaysia certainly offers that,” he stressed.
MAS global sales and distribution senior vice-president Duncan Bureau, who provided the keynote address, said the airline's fleet would be the most environmental-friendly in the Asia-Pacific region by 2015. He said this was due to MAS' efforts towards fleet renewal, including its six new Airbus A380 a plane hailed as among the most environmentally-advanced aircraft.

Corporate travellers urged to explore domestic market

Corporations are encouraged to look at the domestic market when planning trips or team-building sessions for employees as it has so much to offer. To promote what the local market has to offer, Tourism Malaysia and Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia organised a Corporate Travel Bazaar at the Empire Hotel Subang recently. The event was participated by 120 tour providers and hoteliers, while interested buyers came in droves to check on the offers.

More to offer: Putrajaya Botanical Garden’s guide Suhana Hamsan and Putrajaya Challenge Park’s assistant manager Mohd Bazly Mohd Najib showing the various tour package deals available in Putrajaya to corporate travellers.

Tourism Malaysia’s state director for Selangor and Putrajaya Mohammad Nor Ismail said the segment of corporate travellers could be further explored to boost domestic tourism. “There is a huge market yet to be tapped,” he said, adding that the same event held in 2009 in Petaling Jaya had raked in RM1.4mil in sales.

“This year, we hope to achieve a sales target of RM1.7mil,” he said, adding that the organiser wanted creative and innovative package deals from the participants. He pointed out that the country could offer many interesting products for corporate travellers, citing Putrajaya as a place for them to explore.

“In addition to the mosques and bridges, Putrajaya also has wetland with a five-star campsite, extreme park, equestrian facility and even a stretch of beach,” he said. Participants were also brought on a tour to Putrajaya the next day to experience for themselves.
