HO CHI MINH CITY — Tourism Malaysia deepens ties with the Vietnamese travel trade and Malaysian business community through a series of industry activities in Ho Chi Minh City, led by Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia. The engagements provide an opportunity to expand business cooperation, raise awareness of Malaysia as a tourism destination and explore new business opportunities in the Vietnamese market, in support of the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 (VM2026–2027) promotional efforts, which have been extended through 2027.

During the visit, Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal engages with key travel agents and tourism industry stakeholders through networking sessions, including a luncheon and dinner. The discussions provide opportunities to exchange views on market trends, changing consumer preferences and potential areas for collaboration to further grow tourist arrivals from Vietnam to Malaysia.

The programme also includes a session with the Malaysia Business Chamber Vietnam (MBC), involving Malaysian companies and private sector representatives based in Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting facilitates closer ties between the tourism industry and Malaysian businesses in Vietnam, particularly in promoting Malaysia’s diverse tourism products and experiences.

Beyond leisure travel, Tourism Malaysia is highlighting selected tourism segments with potential in the Vietnamese market, including Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H), medical and wellness tourism, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE), and educational tourism. These segments complement Malaysia’s broader tourism offerings and support opportunities for longer stays, repeat visits and more diverse travel purposes.

Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia said, “Vietnam remains an important market for Malaysia, supported by strong air connectivity and close people-to-people ties between our two countries. Direct engagement with the Vietnamese travel trade enables us to better understand market needs, strengthen industry relationships and identify new opportunities to grow tourism flows to Malaysia.”

He added that closer collaboration with Vietnamese travel agents and Malaysian private sector partners is important in broadening the range of Malaysian tourism products and experiences available to the Vietnamese market.

“Malaysia offers a wide range of tourism experiences beyond conventional leisure travel. There are opportunities to further promote Malaysia for business events, education, medical and wellness tourism, long-stay programmes and other specialised travel segments. By expanding these offerings, we can provide Vietnamese travellers with more reasons to discover Malaysia and encourage longer and repeat visits,” he said.

The visit forms part of Tourism Malaysia’s continued efforts to expand its presence in Vietnam through joint promotional activities, familiarisation programmes, product development and business-to-business initiatives with local industry partners.

Malaysia welcomed 217,121 visitors from Vietnam between January and August 2026. During the same period, air connectivity between the two countries recorded 167 weekly flight frequencies, with a total seat capacity of 31,037 seats. Tourism Malaysia continues to work closely with airlines, travel agents, tourism associations and industry partners to leverage existing air connectivity, enhance destination awareness and facilitate travel to Malaysia.

Malaysia Strengthens Tourism Ties With Vietnam Ahead Of VISIT MALAYSIA 2026 Campaign

HO CHI MINH CITY, 29 July 2025 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia is organizing a series of promotional events under the banner Launching of VM2026, Malaysia Food & Culture Promotion and Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam. These initiatives aim to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation and increase awareness of the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign with Vietnam identified as a key priority market within the ASEAN region.

The Malaysian delegation is led by YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, accompanied by 30 representatives from leading Malaysian companies in the tourism, hospitality and related service industries.

In his keynote address, YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing affirmed:

“Vietnam has consistently been one of Malaysia’s most valued strategic partners in tourism within Southeast Asia. We believe the events held during this visit will foster dynamic new partnerships and contribute to the shared goal of developing sustainable, inclusive and mutually beneficial tourism between our two nations.”

Two key activities will be held as part of the Malaysia Tourism, Arts, Culture & Food Fest 2025: Destination Seminar and Business Networking Session together with the Launch of Visit Malaysia 2026 as well as the Malaysia Tourism, Arts, Culture & Food Fest 2025. Both events aim to bring together industry stakeholders, media representatives and the public to celebrate and promote Malaysia’s vibrant tourism offerings, while fostering strategic partnerships in anticipation of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. The series of activities will take place from 29 July to 2 August 2025.

The Destination Seminar and Business Networking Session will serve as a platform for Vietnamese and Malaysian stakeholders in the fields of travel, aviation, hospitality, and tourism services to explore potential avenues for collaboration. The seminar will also introduce the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, which aspires to welcome at least 43 million international visitors in 2026. These events will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on 29 July 2025 at Hotel Nikko Saigon and in Hanoi on 1 August 2025 at Sheraton Hanoi Hotel.

Carrying the theme “Surreal Experiences,” the VM2026 campaign positions Malaysia as a culturally vibrant, welcoming, and enriching destination. It places strong emphasis on innovation in visitor experiences, the development of emerging destinations and the expansion of luxury travel offerings. Furthermore, the campaign is expected to generate positive spillover effects across various related sectors such as hospitality, transport, retail and gastronomy - driving holistic economic growth and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Malaysia’s tourism and cultural industries.

The Launching of VM2026, Malaysia Food & Culture Promotion and Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) is a public showcase set to take place in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, offering audiences an immersive experience of Malaysia’s rich and diverse cultural, culinary and artistic heritage. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience traditional cultural performances, artisanal crafts and authentic Malaysian cuisine - presenting a vibrant showcase of the nation’s creativity, hospitality and legacy. The festival aims to foster deeper cultural understanding and strengthen people-to-people connections between Malaysia and Vietnam.

Concurrently, MADANI Week, hosted by the Embassy of Malaysia in Hanoi, showcases a cross-sectoral exchange spanning culture, education and trade. Inspired by the “Madani” philosophy introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the initiative champions six core values: sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust and compassion. Together, the programme underscores Malaysia’s commitment to holistic national development and the strengthening of strategic partnerships - particularly with key nations such as Vietnam.

As of July 2025, a total of 164 direct weekly flights operate between Vietnam and Malaysia, underscoring the increasing demand for seamless and accessible connectivity between both countries. The rise in flight frequencies particularly overnight services, has facilitated the development of more flexible and time-efficient travel itineraries. This enhanced connectivity is catalyzing the growth of key travel segments, such as weekend getaways, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism and “bleisure” (business and leisure) travel - each of which is gaining strong momentum among Vietnam’s expanding middle class, younger travellers and corporate sector.

Malaysia ranks as the second-largest ASEAN source market for Vietnam, after Cambodia, with 266,869 Malaysian tourists visiting Vietnam in the first half of 2025 alone. Conversely, Malaysia welcomed 168,677 Vietnamese arrivals for the same period, reaffirming its continued appeal as a preferred travel destination. These encouraging figures reflect a strong positive growth trend in two-way tourism, highlighting the resilience and growing potential of the bilateral tourism partnership. For the travel and hospitality sectors, this presents promising opportunities for growth, collaboration and deeper regional integration.

Malaysia continues to be a preferred destination among Vietnamese travellers, attributed to its rich cultural diversity, vibrant culinary scene, stunning natural landscapes and comprehensive tourism offerings that cater to a wide range of market segments. Moving forward, Tourism Malaysia is committed to strengthening collaboration with Vietnamese media, influencers and content creators to highlight lesser-known destinations across Malaysia - enhancing the depth and diversity of the Malaysian travel experience.

This event series in Vietnam not only offers a comprehensive showcase of Malaysia’s tourism, arts, culture and gastronomy, but also reinforces people-to-people diplomacy, mutual understanding and cultural connectivity between two close ASEAN neighbours. It marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s international outreach efforts ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

Malaysia & Thailand Deepen Tourism Ties With High-Impact Tourism Sales Misssion Ahead Of VISIT MALAYSIA 2026

BANGKOK, 3 July 2025 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia has concluded a successful Tourism Sales Mission across Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok which ran from 22 June to 3 July 2025. The mission aimed to enhance bilateral tourism cooperation and lay the foundation for stronger ties ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

Led by the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, the mission brought together Malaysian delegation comprising 24 organisations, including travel agencies, product owners, hotels, Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) agents, and the National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI).

YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing stated, “Thailand and Malaysia are more than neighbours – we are partners in progress. This mission is a call to rise together as collaborators, driving shared prosperity and sustainable tourism growth throughout Southeast Asia.”

Southeast Asia remains a core pillar of Malaysia’s tourism strategy. In 2024, ASEAN countries contributed 28.19 million visitor arrivals, accounting for 74.3% of Malaysia’s international visitors and generating RM54.38 billion in receipts. Thailand alone delivered 2.27 million visitors, and while there was a slight 1.4% dip in arrivals, Thai travellers spent RM3.99 billion, a 23.3% year-on-year increase, indicating a trend toward higher-quality tourism.

The Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, themed “Surreal Experiences,” positions Malaysia as a destination for meaningful, culturally rich, and family-friendly travel. Thailand is viewed as a key market to attract higher-spending and longer-staying travellers due to its convenient transport connectivity and cultural familiarity. In addition, the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme continues to appeal to Thai families and retirees who seek affordable, comfortable long-stay options in Malaysia.

Key emphasis was placed on initiatives to expand air with land connectivity, promote twin-destination packages, support sectors including medical tourism, education mobility and Muslim-friendly travel.

Both countries also expressed a shared commitment to simplifying border procedures, strengthening marketing partnerships, and championing sustainable tourism practices.

From January to April 2025, Malaysia welcomed 13.4 million international visitors, a 21.0% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this total, arrivals from Thailand reached 833,610, reflecting a healthy year-on-year growth of 3.4% and underscoring Thailand’s continued importance as a key source market.

Malaysia Positions MM2H As Strategic Gateway For Singaporeans Seeking Long-Term Lifestyle And Investment Opportunities

Singapore, 15 May 2025 – Malaysia’s revitalised Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme was showcased to Singapore’s affluent and internationally mobile community at the “Maybank Premier MM2H – Your Gateway to Malaysia” event, held at Café Side, MSpace @ Maybank Tower. Organised in collaboration with Maybank Singapore, the event drew strong participation, highlighting the growing interest among Singaporeans in Malaysia’s long-term lifestyle and investment opportunities.

The programme was launched by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, who emphasised that Malaysia is not here to compete with Singapore, but to complement it. He pointed to strategic developments such as the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) with Forest City Special Financial Zone (SFZ) in it as emblematic of how both nations can co-create regional value, enhance mobility and support mutual growth.

Malaysia, he noted, offers Singaporeans an attractive extension to their lifestyle and business ecosystem—delivering cost-effective living, premium infrastructure and access to broader regional markets without compromising on quality. “Malaysia is more than a destination - it is a strategic choice,” the Minister said. “Choosing Malaysia as your second home means gaining access to one of Southeast Asia’s most liveable, well-connected and investment-friendly countries.”

The enhanced MM2H programme now features three flexible tiers— Platinum, Gold and Silver - designed to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of applicants from high-net-worth individuals to retirees and digital nomads. Each tier offers access to Malaysia’s high-quality yet affordable lifestyle, world-class healthcare, cultural diversity and strong ASEAN-wide connectivity.

The Minister also reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to improving transparency, streamlining application processes and strengthening policy clarity under MM2H. These efforts are aimed at making the programme a future-ready platform for long-term residents, investors and entrepreneurs seeking a secure and strategic base in the region.

The collaboration with Maybank Singapore provides prospective participants with access to trusted financial advisory services and seamless onboarding support, making it easier for Singaporean clients to explore MM2H options with confidence and convenience.

The event was held in two sessions, with over 60 participants attending the morning session and more than 140 expected in the evening, demonstrating strong and sustained interest in the MM2H programme among Singapore’s discerning community. This initiative reflects MOTAC’s broader mission to position Malaysia as a preferred second home and lifestyle destination for Singaporeans, while deepening cross-border collaboration in tourism, investment and regional mobility.

Malaysia-China tourism takes off: Shanghai and China Eastern Airlines boost flights to 62 weekly

KUALA LUMPUR: Shanghai Airlines and China Eastern Airlines are set to boost flight services between Malaysia and China, with a commitment to a minimum of 62 weekly flights.

Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing shared plans for expanded operations, introducing five additional departure locations and three new destinations, emphasizing Xi'an and Urumqi as key hubs for the Chinese Muslim market.

The surge in tourism is attributed to visa exemptions, prompting the airlines to enhance their schedules, increase frequencies, and introduce new routes to foster stronger connections between the two nations.

"Following my official visit to China last year, I received detailed information from China Eastern Airlines and its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines regarding the introduction of new flight routes. "In addition, three new destinations will be incorporated: Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, and Penang. Xi'an and Urumqi, specifically, will function as primary hubs with a strategic focus on the Chinese Muslim market," he said in a statement today.

He said currently, Shanghai Airlines and China Eastern Airlines operate a robust schedule with 45 weekly direct flights connecting the two countries.

"Specifically, they cater to the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program, offering 31 flights to the Langkawi International Tourism Subang Skypark Shah Alam.

"The favourable response from citizens of both nations indicates the success of the visa exemption initiative. In response, airlines are bolstering their confidence and taking proactive measures to address the heightened demand in the market.

"This includes increasing flight frequencies and introducing new routes, fostering stronger people-to-people connections between Malaysia and China throughout this year.

"Tiong also highlighted immediate steps, such as augmenting existing Shanghai Airlines flights, particularly the Langkawi International Tourism Subang Skypark Shah Alam route.

Commencing Jan 19, the flight frequency will elevate from 17 to 21, with three daily flights employing the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a more fitting choice for the journey.

It is understood that starting Jan 26, China Eastern Airlines will initiate flights on the Beijing to Kuala Lumpur route. The service will include a daily round-trip flight on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, operated by Airbus A330 aircraft.

He also stated that China Eastern Airlines will gradually launch daily flights from Shanghai Pudong Airport to new destinations in Malaysia in the second half of this year. This includes daily flights to Penang starting from July 24 and daily round-trip flights to Kuching, Sarawak, commencing in mid-September.

"If these additional flights can be implemented according to the schedule, and the new routes are approved, both airlines will operate 73 weekly flights from China to Malaysia, with a weekly passenger capacity exceeding 10,000 individuals."

On Dec 15, Tiong announced the relaxation of the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, introducing three new categories.

Under the new MM2H programme, the age requirement was lowered to 30 and above (versus 35 and above previously) and the programme has been extended to dependents aged between 21 and 34 who are not working or married in Malaysia. Parents or parents-in-law are also eligible as dependents.

Previously, dependents only included spouses, children under 21 and any children with disabilities.

Hybrid Seminar On Malaysia As A Muslim-Friendly Travel Destination, Preferred Medical Tourism Hub & My Second Home

TAIPEI, 7 September 2022 – The Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei together with Tourism Malaysia Taipei Office organised a hybrid seminar on three tourism-related topics targeted at the tourism industry players in Taiwan.

Held at The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei on 7th September 2022, the seminar focused on promoting a better understanding of what Malaysia has to offer to the Taiwanese. Apart from being the top Muslim-friendly travel destination, Malaysia is also known for its medical tourism and its special Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

Ms. Sharon Ho, President of the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre together with Mr. David Tsao E-Shu, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Division of Taiwan Tourism Bureau attended the seminar and delivered their welcome remarks for the opening session.

Mr. Fitra Mohd Ali, Director (Covering) of Industry Development from Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), was the first speaker on the topic: Malaysia as a Muslim-Friendly Travel Destination. He addressed that Malaysia was chosen as one of the top travel destinations for Muslim travellers by Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel (GMTI) 2022’s report, closely followed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia in joint 2nd position. Malaysia remained the top-ranked destination in the GMTI as it had been since the launch of the index in 2015. In 2019, Malaysia received 5.32 million arrivals of Muslim tourists with receipts of up to RM16.72 billion.

Malaysia possesses all the necessary components as a Muslim tourist destination with an abundance of halal food, prayer and washing facilities, family-friendly entertainment, and Muslim-friendly services together with Islamic attractions and tourism products. These features not only cater to the demands of Muslim visitors but also allow non-Muslim visitors to enjoy Malaysia's charms.

Over the years, there have been many ongoing collaborations and initiatives between ITC and industry players, including research, seminars, workshops, and industry development programmes, to build Malaysia's reputation in the global Islamic tourism industry.

The second topic was covered by Ms. Alice Ong, Director of North Asia Markets from Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) with the title: Forging Resilience for Malaysia’s Medical Tourism Especially for Post COVID-19 Economy Recovery. She stated that MHTC as an agency under the Ministry of Health in Malaysia was established to promote the Malaysian medical tourism sector by organising industry cooperation and establishing fruitful domestic and international public-private partnerships. In 2019, Malaysia received 1.22 million arrivals for healthcare travellers with RM1.7 billion in revenue.

Malaysia has won numerous awards for "Medical Travel Destination of the Year," which is acknowledged as Asia's centre for fertility and cardiology and is now referred to as the "Miracle of World Healthcare."

The final speaker was Peter Peng, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) discussing the topic: Malaysia is a Perfect Country Not Only for Holiday, But Also Suitable for Other Business Purposes. He stated that the Malaysian government-sponsored scheme primarily enables foreigners who satisfy specific requirements to extend their stay in Malaysia with multiple-entry visas. No matter their race, religion, gender or age, residents of all nations recognised by Malaysia are eligible for the programme and participants are allowed to bring their spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21 as dependents.

Malaysia, as a multiracial and multilingual country, offers an abundance of family-friendly amenities for parents and kids including theme parks, jungle trails, sports, water sports, and international-standard golf courses. Besides that, Malaysia is also known for its shopping experience, from high-end couture to ethnic handicrafts and the internationally-acclaimed pewter ware. In addition, Malaysia offers affordable access to the best healthcare and top-notch education for international tourists and students. Until 2019, the total number of approved participants for MM2H programs is 48,471.

Program MM2H terima sambutan menggalakkan
