Ascott to rebrand three Bayview hotels in Malaysia

Ascott Malaysia will refurbish and convert three Bayview properties in Penang and Langkawi under separate hospitality brands, with an estimated investment of 210 million ringgit (US$50 million) and phased reopenings expected from early 2028.

The properties, comprising 989 rooms, are Bayview Beach Resort Penang, which will become Ascott Batu Ferringhi Penang Resort; Bayview Hotel Georgetown, to be renamed Oakwood Georgetown Penang; and Bayview Hotel Langkawi, which will operate as Fox Hotel Langkawi.

Ascott Batu Ferringhi Penang Resort will be Malaysia’s first beachfront resort under the Ascott brand, targeting leisure and MICE travellers. Refurbishment works will cover guest rooms, the lobby, restaurants, swimming pool, spa and wellness facilities, and children’s club. The resort’s banquet facilities, including its 1,000-seat ballroom, will also be upgraded.

Oakwood Georgetown Penang will cater to business and leisure travellers visiting George Town, while Fox Hotel Langkawi, located in Kuah, will target leisure visitors and travellers combining business with holidays. The latter will mark the Fox brand’s debut in Langkawi.

All three Bayview properties have ceased operations ahead of refurbishment. Bayview Hotel Georgetown had operated for four decades before its closure.

The properties are owned by Oriental Holdings and operated by Ascott. Further details on facilities, bookings and reopening dates will be released as redevelopment progresses.

Once reopened, the hotels will join Ascott Malaysia’s existing portfolio of 29 hotels and serviced residences.

The investment comes as Malaysia recorded 21.1 million international visitor arrivals in the 1H2026, up 2.5 per cent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
