'Model Village' Kampung Bukit Wan To Boost Tourism In Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Kampung Bukit Wan near Batu Rakit here has been selected as a model village and a preferred tourist destination.

Through the Visit My Village Programme (VMK 2014) organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Terengganu Office, tourists will be exposed to the experience of holidaying in a village.

Its director, Mohd Sabri Zakaria said for the successful implementation of the VMK, they would work together with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to identify other villages in the area that meet tourism requirements to become additional VMK destinations in Terengganu.

"Kampung Bukit Wan was chosen because it still retains the concept of the traditional Malay heritage village and it has also won the Excellent Village Award for the year 2012 as well as several cleanliness awards at district and state levels.

"Strong commitment from the villagers in participating in all the village activities including in the gotong-royong to clean up the village, creating beautiful landscapes and programmes organised by the state government to make Kampung Bukit Wan a model village is also a reason for it being selected in VMK 2014," he told reporters following the launch of the VMK 2014 by Batu Rakit assemblyman Bazlan Abdul Rahman.
