AirAsia adds three new flight routes to its itinerary

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has become the first airline to offer flights from Johor Baru to Tawau, Singapore to Kota Baru and Singapore to Kuala Terengganu.

In announcing the three new routes, the budget airline said it would be offering a base fare as low as RM69 for the Johor Baru–Tawau route for those wishing to travel to the destination between April 18 and January 31, 2015. Those interested in taking advantage of these low fares can start doing their booking from now till Feb 16.

For the flights plying the Singapore–Kota Baru and Singapore–Kuala Terengganu routes, the airline will be giving away free seats for those who wish to travel between April 21 and Oct 25, and between April 22 and Oct 25, respectively. The free seats are also now available and those wishing to book for the flights can do so until Feb 16.

The bookings can be made at www.airasia.com and potential passengers will only have to pay applicable fees and taxes ranging from RM29 one way.

“We are proud to be the sole operator to provide air services to bridge the existing gap between these destinations.

“This signifies our never-ending commitment to present low fares, more choices and trustworthy air links to these underserved areas,” said AirAsia Bhd commercial head, Kenny Wong, in a statement yesterday.

The airline is also currently offering 20% off for all seats on all available flights for bookings made from now until Feb 16 for those wishing to travel to the various destinations between Feb 17 to May 18.

In another statement, AirAsia X said it would be suspending its flight services to Male, capital of the Maldives, effective from March 1 onwards. The long-haul, low fare affiliate of the AirAsia Group confirmed yesterday that services to Male were being suspended due to challenging business conditions.

“Despite our efforts, external factors such as the depreciation of Asian currencies against the US dollar and the chronic lack of hotel room supply in Maldives that has resulted in the cancellation of thousands of bookings by travel operators,” said AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani in the statement.
