According to state tourism, domestic trade and consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, the figure was arrived at, based on the 300,000 visitors to the festival last year.
"We are confident of meeting the target of 500,000 local and foreign tourists to the biggest annual event, which is organised by the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council.
"This is because we are now promoting the 2014 Visit Malaysia Year and this is the best opportunity for tourists to come here," he said at a media conference after a survey at the festival in Johor Baharu, Thursday.
Tee expects 10 per cent of the tourists to comprise foreigners while the rest would be domestic tourists.
