MARINE biologists from Malaysia, the Netherlands and the United States began a three-week expedition to assess marine biodiversity and coral reef health in Semporna recently. Assistant district officer (Administration) Norsih Nusuri represented Semporna District Officer Abdul Mohamad Ibnu to launch the expedition and sent the expedition team off on the MV Celebes Explorer. The expedition is organised by the WWF-Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Malaya and the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis.
The survey area is part of the Coral Triangle, the world’s centre of marine biodiversity.
Follow the expedition blog, where the expedition members will update their daily work and share new findings, as well as share their stunning images and short videos at http://www.ncbnaturalis.nl/. The Semporna Marine Ecological Expedition is made possible in part by funding from Adessium Foundation.
