Third theme park planned for Johor

KOTA TINGGI: A third theme park will be built in Johor at km-16 Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi after the Asia’s first Legoland theme park and the Puteri Harbour park located in Nusajaya. Construction of the RM750mil Legoland is ongoing for its opening by April 2012 which will be followed by Puteri Harbour. Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the new theme park would incorporate a green concept suitable within its surrounding areas. He said a foreign company had approached the Johor government to develop the 404.68ha land and was given six months to come out with a suitable plan to develop the first 202.34ha.

“This new theme park is unlike Disneyland and we believe it will become the latest tourist attraction in Johor,” he said, after a groundbreaking ceremony at the new Yayasan Pelajaran Johor main campus here. The RM53mil campus situated on a 40.46ha land along Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi. First phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 with an intake of 2,500 students.

Abdul Ghani added that the state had intentionally chosen Kulai-Kota Tinggi for the third state theme park instead of Iskandar Malaysia, as the development plan of the new facilities required a substantial amount of green area. In an unrelated matter, he said the Johor government would forward a proposal to the Federal Government to build a new bridge across Sungai Johor near Tai Hong village to Taman Kota Jaya here. Abdul Ghani said the proposed bridge would ease up congestion at the existing bridge connecting Kota Tinggi district and Johor Baru. “We are hoping to receive allocation for the new bridge either in the 10th Malaysia Plan or in the 11th Malaysia Plan,” he said.
