KL Convention Centre wins second award for excellence

THE Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s reputable brand name received further recognition when it was voted ‘Malaysia Prominent Brand’ 2010 in this year’s (2010) Malaysia Independence Award 1957. In the inaugural Malaysia Independence Award 1957 last year, the centre received the ‘Prominent Company’ Award for its contribution towards building the country’s reputation as a preferred destination for meetings, conferences, exhibitions and events. The centre’s general manager Datuk Peter Brokenshire attributed their success to the unwavering support and co-operation from industry partners including the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and a dedicated team committed to the delivery of world-class products and services.

The prestigious Malaysia Independence Award 1957 is organised by the Selangor Petaling Business and Industry Association, one of the earliest and most active non-profit business organisations in Malaysia. The award recognises the contribution and achievement of Malaysian companies in nation- building. From January to October 2010, the centre hosted some 28 conventions and 53 exhibitions including the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum, World
Engineering Science and Technology Conference, World Halal Forum and World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) 2010 with the latter recording the highest number of participants in the WCOA’s history with 6,048 delegates.

Since its official opening in June 2005 through to October 2010, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre was the venue of choice for 3,651 events with over 10.1 million delegates and visitors.
This, in turn, has contributed RM2.8bil in economic impact to Kuala Lumpur city and Malaysia.
