Malaysia's tourism poster entitled "Homestay" topped other entries from the region including Indonesia, India, Japan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Republic of Korea and Thailand.
Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, YBhg. Dato' Dr. Ong Hong Peng was on hand to receive the award from the UNWTO Secretary General, Taleb Rifai.
Other best tourism poster winners comprised Sri Lanka (South Asian region), South Africa (African region), Peru (Americas region), Turkey (European region) and Palestine (Middle East region) while Armenia's tourism poster emerged as the winner of the People's Choice award.
The seven winning posters can be viewed on the UNWTO website until the next edition of the Vettor Giusti posters competition at the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly; they are also being displayed at the entrance hall of the UNWTO building in Madrid until the end of the 2013 General Assembly.
BACKGROUNDER
The Vettor Giusti tourism posters competition is held every two years on the occasion of the sessions of the UNWTO General Assembly, and provides an opportunity to showcase the creativity and beauty found in the posters used to promote tourism in each country. The Vettor Giusti tourism posters competition is open to all the Member States of the UNWTO and is channeled exclusively through their national tourism administrations.
