Over 5,000 Legoland passes sold

JOHOR BARU: About 5,000 people have bought the Legoland Malaysia pre-opening annual passes which went on sale on Dec 25 last year. Legoland Malaysia general manager Siegfried Boerst said sales had been good with about 300 passes sold daily.

“About 80% of the passes were bought by locals but we have also started programmes to promote the park in Singapore, Indonesia and other countries,” he told reporters yesterday after unveiling “Ollie”, a dragon constructed by Legoland model builders out of about 10,000 Lego bricks, at Thistle Hotel here. The dragon is a mascot of the park and will be placed at the hotel as part of Chinese New Year celebrations.

Boerst also said work on the park project was on schedule and it was expected to open in the second quarter of the year.

“We expect one million visitors within the first 12 months,” he said, adding that the park would also be partnering Thistle Hotel to provide attractive packages to patrons.

“We have not finalised the details for the packages but it will include accommodation at the hotel and entrance to the park.”

He said the hotel was also looking into providing shuttle services to the theme park.

“We hope for similar partnerships with other hotels here in the future,” he said.

Last December, Legoland Malaysia announced the park entry fees and began sales of its pre-opening annual passes at a discounted rate. The pre-opening passes, which are valid until the end of 2013, are priced at RM195 for adults and RM150 for children while the regular price is RM275 for adults and RM210 for children.
