Ng urges Malaysians to explore local destinations

RAUB: Malaysians shouldn't let the economic slowdown and the re-routing of flights hinder their travelling as they can always explore the many scenic spots in the country.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said that with the current development around the world, the industry might take a dip. “However, the industry does not need to suffer much as Malaysia is equally exciting. In fact, domestic tourists formed the larger group with 110 million arrivals recorded in 2010. They spent about RM34bil.

“Arrivals of foreign tourists stood at 24 million but they spent more with RM56.4bil,” she said after presenting Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) vouchers to 129 recipients here yesterday.
Both
Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia X have recently announced the scrapping of several flights to Europe and India.

The ministry, added Dr Ng, would embark on a promotional blitz to encourage more domestic tourism. “Mobile tourism vans promoting Malaysia will be parked at places with crowds of people, such as morning or weekly markets.”
