MAS increases weekly flights to some destinations

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is increasing the frequency of its weekly flights to several neighbouring countries as well as three of its long-haul flights effective March 25.

The airline would add another B737-800 flight to its existing twice-daily Kuala Lumpur-Manila return sector, it said in a statement yesterday. The KL-Phnom Penh re-turn route, now operating with nine weekly B737 flights, will have an additional flight on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Three more weekly flights – on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – will be added beginning May 1.

MAS will introduce two weekly B737-800 flights for the KL-Jakarta return route on Tuesday and Thursday, resulting in a total of 42 weekly flights between the two capital cities. “MAS’ flight frequency expansion is in line with the airline’s business plan revealed on Dec 7 last year, where the national carrier’s network focus is on the core Asean region where its presence is the strongest,” the statement said.

Connectivity between KL-Medan will increase to 14 a week with a second B737 flight on Friday.
MAS will operate four daily flights between KL and Bangkok with the introduction of an additional flight on Sunday between the two cities. The national carrier’s B777-200 flights to Beijing will be doubled to twice daily.

Meanwhile, MAS’ three weekly KL–Taipei–Los Angeles flights will be revised to operate four times weekly. The KL-Taipei return sector will operate with daily flights effective March 27 using the B737-800 aircraft.
