Hotels, chalets, resorts and even budget hotels in the state can vie for a RM10,000 cash prize in a competition for decorating the premises’ lobby with Perak tourism products.
Held in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012, the Hotel Lobby Decoration challenge organised by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Perak Chapter) is open to all hotels even if they are not members of the association.
Chapter chairman Vincent Ee the challenge would be divided into two categories, the first from January to June focusing on the ‘Heritage’ theme, while the second session is from July to December, featuring the ‘Nature’ theme. Ee said participants would need to feature a minimum of five out of the 10 selected Perak tourism icons.
“Judging criteria is based on artistic impression, message, composition, creativity, design, finished appearance, general impression and suitability,” he said.
State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman, who was present at the launch of the competition, said she was glad to see co-operation between the state government, Tourism Perak and the hotels. “This challenge is part of efforts to create a healthy competitive environment and therefore I encourage all the hotels and resorts to take part,” she said, adding that the state government contributed RM50,000 for the challenge. She hoped that more of such events would help to spur the tourism industry.
“I hope the hotels would continue to play their part and even take a step to include brochures of tourist destinations in the state in every hotel room, to increase the tourist’s awareness,” she said.
