Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia a big boost for Sarawak's tourism industry

KUCHING: Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia in Sarawak brings economic benefits to local communities while boosting Malaysia’s tourism industry ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), says Sarawak Tourism Malaysia director Rubiah Tul’Adwiyah Mohd Yusof.

Rubiah explained that the carnival served as a platform to support the tourism industry in various sectors, as well as adjacent industries such as handicrafts and food.

“We have 74 booths participating in this carnival, and we can see from the huge turnout that it has generated a lot of excitement.

“Our exhibitors are also satisfied with their sales and have expressed interest in taking part in future editions,” she said.

She added that VM2026 would be promoted holistically, focusing on engagement with industry players.

“We see business-to-consumer opportunities for VM2026 and want to highlight our culture and food, besides travel destinations,” she said.

Rubiah said the VM2026 campaign would also have various programs involving Sarawak Tourism Malaysia, providing further opportunities to promote the state’s tourism industry.

“It is a good platform for our industry players to promote their travel packages and introduce new tourism products to locals.

“Sarawak Tourism Malaysia is not only about promoting our own state but also introducing other wonderful destinations across Malaysia, encouraging both intra- and inter-state travel,” she said.

The three-day Star Karnival Cuti Cuti Malaysia 2025 Sarawak, which started on Oct 17, ends on Sunday (Oct 19) at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching.

Co-organised by Tourism Malaysia and Star Media Group, the series is themed “Explore. Experience. Excite.” and showcases tourism, culture, food and lifestyle under one roof.

There were 74 booths in total, including 28 by hotels and resorts, 26 showcasing local crafts and 20 highlighting food and beverages.
