Lau paints the beauty of bygone M’sia

KUALA LUMPUR: Art curators and fine art lovers flocked to the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) to witness artist Nancy Lau's first solo exhibition on scenes of bygone Malaysia.
Entitled “Homeland Beyond Time”, the exhibition comprises 37 acrylic and oil paintings depicting the country's natural beauty and its multi-cultural population. “I want my audience to cherish Malaysia's beauty and learn to appreciate the uniqueness of our homeland,” said Lau, 45.
She said she derived the theme from fond memories of her younger years, immortalising the moments on canvas. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, who was present, said she was glad to see the increasing number of female artists in the local art scene.
Those were the days: Lau explaining her artwork to Dr Ng at KLPAC.
“In the past, it was dominated mostly by men and it is extremely inspiring to see more women getting active,” she added. Ng urged Malaysians to use art as a channel to present the beauty of Malaysian nature to the world.
The exhibition will be on until July 16 (10am to 10pm), with no entrance fee. Ten per cent of sale proceeds will be chanelled to Sheep Pen Shelter Homefor the old.
