MAS launches super jumbo A380 service to Heathrow

SEPANG: Malaysia Airlines has set anot her record with the launch of its Airbus A380 scheduled service between KL International Airport and Heathrow.
In an elaborate launch at the KLIA attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday, the super jumbo flight MH2 was given a rousing send-off minutes before midnight. Also present were Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha and MAS group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
Having a feel of things: Muhyiddin mingling with passengers inside the super jumbo’s cabin at KLIA in Sepang before flight MH2 take-off.
Incidentally, it was exactly 38 years ago that MAS operated its flights to London when it began its service between the two cities on July 1, 1974. MAS is now the eighth operator of the super jumbo and will be the second carrier to operate such an aircraft when it becomes a full member of the one world alliance by the end of the year.
The national carrier also notched several significant firsts with the A380 operations. Among others, it is the only airline to introduce its A380 in an exclusive new livery. It also has the widest first class seats among the operators of the aircraft. Muhyiddin said the aircraft would contribute to the efforts of increasing the number of tourist arrivals.
Ahmad Jauhari said the introduction of the A380 would see a continuation of the company’s refreshed brand campaign which started in March. MAS, he said, would operate a daily flight between the two destinations by mid-August.
