Perak to boost tourism with two more theme parks

IPOH: The Perak government plans to have two more theme parks in Bandar Meru Raya to boost its tourism industry.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said after a meeting with Perak State Development Corporation, it was decided that one would be a water-based and the other, a jungle-based theme park.
“The jungle or forest theme park is a new idea by the corporation,” he said after attending a Hari Raya open house at Casuarina@Meru Hotel yesterday.
"It will be based on our beautiful forest reserves in Kledang Saiong Eco Forest Park here," he added.
“We will then have three theme parks here,” Zambry said, adding that the first theme park was in Bandar Meru Raya – the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS).
“With three theme parks, we hope tourists will stay longer in Perak,” he said, adding the RM500mil MAPS was expected to be operational in December.
“We will focus on MAPS first, then the water theme park and lastly, the jungle-based park,” he said, adding that all three theme parks were estimated to cost about RM1bil.
“With Ipoh on the world map now, the theme parks will be our ‘game changer’ to bring in more revenue.”
