KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Terengganu is to capitalise on its inaugural international squid harvesting carnival in April to promote the state and the country to the world.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said Wednesday 50 television stations from around the world had agreed to cover the carnival, one of the programmes of Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
"We will hold a meeting next month to finalise the time, accommodation and equipment for the crew of these television stations," he told reporters after Kuala Terengganu City councillors took their oath of office, here.
Ahmad said a photography competition would be held for the TV crew and the prizes would be package tours to Terengganu's tourist attractions.
The menteri besar said the squid harvesting carnival would indirectly promote the flora and fauna of Terengganu and Malaysia to the world and draw tourists.
He said squid harvesting was known in Malaysia but not elsewhere in the world. "Only Malaysia has such a programme (squid harvesting)," he said, adding that the state wanted to capitalise on this unique activity and draw tourists through the screening of the carnival over the television stations abroad.
