Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said today these packages offered tourists a leisurely rail trip to various parts of peninsular Malaysia on the trains of Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Berhad.
They were the 'Day-Trip by Rail', 'North and East-bound Homestay by Rail' and 'Resplendence Resort by Rail', packages, besides the 'Experience Malaysia Homestay Packages by Rail' launched in 2010.
"Promoting railway tourism is a way of enriching the experience for both domestic and international tourists to discover Malaysia comprehensively via train.
"Realising that this is a fairly new sector, introduced in 2010, and has great potential to be promoted further, the ministry has engaged in a smart partnership with the Railway Tourism Association Malaysia (RTAM) to further develop this sector," he said when launching the programme here.
Besides promoting railway tourism, RTAM would also participate in the effort to promote heritage and culture, especially homestays, as well as sites and structures which have been gazetted by the National Heritage Department, he said.
