PORT KLANG, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- A total of 3,571 foreign tourists who are travelling on board the tourist ship, Mariner of The Seas, arrived at the Port Klang Cruise Centre, in Pulau Indah, here today.
They were warmly greeted on the first day of the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 with traditional dance performances by the Seri Pekan Cultural Association and a 'silat' performance by Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd.
The Director of the Industry Development Division of Tourism Malaysia, Saidi Bundan, who led the welcoming party, told reporters that Port Klang was the first port of call by the luxury liner in Malaysia from Singapore before proceeding its journey to Penang tomorrow and subsequently to Langkawi.
Today, the tourists from Europe, Africa, Hong Kong, and Japan would be taken on a tour as well as shopping and enjoying the local food in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, he said.
"We hope this will be the beginning of a rise in the number of tourists visiting this country in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2014," he said. A press statement from Tourism Malaysia said the number of stops by cruise ships had increased from 287 in 2010 to 338 in 2012.
