MATTA gets ISO cert

KUALA LUMPUR: After more than a year of meticulous auditing, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has been certified with the MS ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System.

MATTA is the first travel trade association in Malaysia to be ISO certified.

Its president Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun said that having the certification would give its existing and potential business partners more confidence in MATTA's reliability.

“It will also ensure that MATTA lives up to the expectations of our 2,800 members in terms of quality, as we will now have to work hard to keep up our standards, since we will be audited yearly to stay certified,” he said at the ISO certificate presentation ceremony at Wisma MATTA here yesterday.

He said this would set the pace for all travel agents and tour operators to further improve the quality of their services. “Only with improved standards will our industry grow and go on to greater heights, thus contributing to the economy,” he said.

Mohd Khalid received the certificate from Christina Chan, a department manager who represented auditing firm SGS (M) Sdn Bhd.

Managing director K.H. Tan who represented Cambridge Consultants, a firm which also assisted in auditing the association for the ISO certification, said that MATTA was found to be up to standard, particularly in the areas of its management and operations. “It was a very comprehensive and detailed process which took over a year to complete,” he said.
