Malaysia lifts travel advisory to Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has lifted the travel advisory on Malaysians going to Japan which was issued in May.

In a statement Monday, the Foreign Ministry said the decision was made following a significant improvement of the situation in the north-eastern part of Japan. The ministry said, however, that Malaysians were "strongly advised" against travelling to areas within 30km radius of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and to strictly observe the restriction zone imposed by Japan's government.

"The ministry further advises Malaysians in Japan to always be careful and remain alert to any directives issued by the relevant Japanese authorities concerning safety and security," it said. Malaysians in Japan are also asked to register with the Malaysian embassy in Tokyo which is contactable at +81-3-34763840.
