Ignatius Ong to take the helm at Firefly

Ignatius Ong, currently the regional senior vice president, Australia, New Zealand & South West Pacific (ANZ) at Malaysia Airlines (MAS), will be replacing Eddy Leong, who submitted his resignation as CEO of Firefly and COO of MAS shorthaul operations two days ago.

Leong will be leaving the MAS Group on December 9, and will assume a new role as COO of Destinations Resorts & Hotels, which is the resorts and hotels investment holding company for MAS majority shareholder, Khazanah Nasional.

Ong joined MAS in 2004 as a manager in the project management and programme management departments, and subsequently moved to the turnaround management office, now referred to as strategy – CEO’s office.

In 2006, he was promoted to vice president, revenue management, and also took on the concurrent role of route commercial manager for the UK/Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and North Asia. Ong was appointed MAS’ regional head for ANZ in April last year.
