The Coronade Hotel is going through a rebranding exercise and part of it includes a name change to Hotel Royal Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel was taken over by the Hotel Royal Pte Ltd, which owns the Hotel Royal Group, in October 2010 and will be undergoing upgrading works to suit the modern market. The Royal Group chief executive officer Lee Chou Hock said a budget of RM20mil had been allocated for upgrading works to equip the hotel with the comforts of a home, in line with its tagline “Every Room A Home”.
“Apart from physical upgrading of our room, lobby and restaurant, we will be more focused on collecting guest profiles to enhance their next visit by creating a homely comfort. “We will also be investing in technology to match the current market’s expectation,” he said during its soft launch.
Also present at the launch was Malaysian Association of Hotels president Datuk Mohd Ilyas Zainol Abidin, who said the strategic location was an assurance of success. “In the Asean region, Malaysia is still leading in the number of tourists. “The Tourism Ministry strives to achieve the target of 36 million tourist arrivals with a revenue of RM168bil by 2020, and 40% of that goes to the hotel industry. “In current times, the success of a hotel relies very much on its people and investment in technology. These creative and innovative aspects will definitely find a niche in the market,” he said.
Hotel Royal Kuala Lumpur general manager Sazrul Fadzil said the hotel’s upgrading works were set to be completed by the end of next year. “We are also taking steps to become a paperless organisation and are computerising our administration and management processes in phases,” he said.
Hotel Royal will continue with its collaboration with Pink Ribbon Deeds (Pride) Foundation. Pride Foundation chairman Datin Azrene Abdullah was present to receive a RM2,000 cheque. The proceeds were from the sale of Pride merchandise available at the hotel. It was part of the hotel’s corporate social responsibility campaign run for Pride since January.
In conjunction with the launch of the new name, goodie bags were given away to 111 taxis in the hotel’s driveway. Hotel Royal Kuala Lumpur is a four-star establishment in Jalan Walter Grenier and has over 225 rooms and suites.
