Top Dive Spots Closed Due To Coral Bleaching

Numerous islands in marine parks in three states have been closed due to coral bleaching. The Department of Marine Park Malaysia said the closure will take place from 2nd of July until October 31, 2010.

All recreational activities, including snorkelling and scuba-diving, are prohibited during that period of time. The affected areas are listed as below :

Pulau Payar, Kedah : Teluk Wangi, Pantai Damai dan Coral Garden;

Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu : Teluk Dalam, Pulau Perhentian Besar, Tanjung Tukas Darat and Tanjung Tukas Laut;

Pulau Redang, Terengganu : Teluk Bakau, Pulau Tenggol, Teluk Air Tawar;
Gugusan Pulau Tioman, Pahang : Pulau Chebeh dan Batu Malang;


The General Director of Department of Marine Park Malaysia, Abd Jamal Mydin said, those areas have been closed due to coral bleaching phenomenon which become more serious and to avoid the damage of the coral as well. Human activities and current climatic condition would have an impact on the reef.
