Sibu To Bake Its Way To promote Local Tourism

SIBU, July 18 (BERNAMA) -- Sibu intends to bake its way to further promote the local tourism industry. Plans are underway to come up with its very own biscuits, cakes and puffs in the shape of a swan which signifies the town symbol. A contest, in conjunction with its ongoing signature tourism event, Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF), is being held for bakers and individuals to come up with 15 types of biscuits and 15 types of cakes/puffs.

Known as 'Swan Delicatessen Nomination', it is the brainchild of state environment and public health minister Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also former state tourism minister. Wong said visitors coming here would soon be able to take home the biscuits, cakes and puff which would help them remember the town to make frequent visits. "They can also be our tourism promoters when they give the pastries to others. So, it goes without saying all your creations should not only be delicious but be unique," he told reporters when visiting the 3rd BCF Trade Exhibition 2010 organised by Garden and Leisure (M) Sdn Bhd Saturday night. Seventy-eight exhibitors from the automobile, education, manufacturing, health, food and fashion sectors, among others, are participating in the 10-day event which began on July 16.
