Telaga Air Esplanade To Emerge As Eco-Tourism Centre

KUCHING, July 5 (Bernama) -- The RM9.2 million Telaga Air Esplanade, which was completed in April, will emerge as the state's new eco-tourism centre. This is because the esplanade, which is near to the Tanah Bencah National Park, one of the national park gazetted by the Unesco, is surrounded by natural infrastructure like beautiful island and beaches. "The government's efforts to turn the esplanade into tourist attraction will enable the local people to showcase their respective tourism products," Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said on Monday.

He said the Telaga Air Rural Development Centre, comprising nine villages which made up the esplanade, was a suitable location to showcase local products. He said this when opening the "Sepakat Bestari" Carnival 2010 organised by Sarawak Information Department at the Telaga Air Esplanade, here on Monday. Various activities, including stage performance, 1Malaysia talk, and 'Bubur Lambuk" (savoury porridge) cooking demonstration had been lined-up for the two-day carnival.
