ASEAN-China Tourism Dialogue 2026: Forging Stronger Ties, Unlocking New Opportunities

Langkawi took centre stage as Malaysia hosted the ASEAN–China Tourism Dialogue 2026, bringing together tourism leaders, industry players and key stakeholders from across ASEAN and China.

Officially launched by YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the high-level dialogue was also graced by the presence of distinguished VIPs, including YB Tuan Chiew Choon Man, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture; YBhg Dato’ Shaharudin Abu Sohot, Secretary General of Ministry Tourism, Arts and Culture; and Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia. The dialogue explored strategic opportunities to advance sustainable tourism, digital transformation, regional connectivity and stronger people-to-people exchanges.

Held in conjunction with the dialogue, the Malaysia–China Tourism Dialogue and ASEAN–China Business Networking Session further strengthened bilateral and regional partnerships, culminating in the signing and exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and business cooperation agreements between Malaysian and Chinese tourism stakeholders.

The programme also featured the ASEAN–China Business Networking Session, providing a valuable platform for tourism businesses and industry players from both regions to forge strategic partnerships, explore new commercial linkages and unlock emerging market opportunities.

To conclude the programme, delegates were taken on a technical visit to Kilim Geoforest Park, Langkawi Craft Complex and a Langkawi Sunset Cruise, showcasing Langkawi’s distinctive ecotourism, rich cultural heritage and diverse experiential tourism offerings.

As Malaysia continues to advance the objectives of Visit Malaysia 2026, these strategic collaborations play a vital role in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a preferred destination while fostering greater tourism connectivity between ASEAN and China.
