Tanjung Emas Waterfront Is Muar's New Tourist Attraction

MUAR, April 2 (Bernama) -- The Tanjung Emas Waterfront inaugurated by Tunku Panglima of Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim today will be a new attraction boosting the region's tourism sector.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Hamim Samuri said the RM18.1-million project located along the left bank of Sungai Muar would bring substantial benefits to the residents of this area.

"We hope this new infrastructure and clean river water will attract people to visit the royal town boosting tourism and business in the region.

"This initiative enables residents especially those living on the banks of the river to continue to make a living by catching fish and shrimps that is abundant here," he told reporters at the opening of the Tanjung Emas Waterfront, here today.

Hamim said the government had always prioritised the development of rural areas as part of the backbone of the country's development.

"Before the Muar river beautification project was carried out, most of the riverbank protection structures crumbled and a critical condition followed with the occurrence of tides and floods," he said.

The project implemented by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) in collaboration with various other agencies included the construction of a retaining wall to prevent erosion, landscaping works and beautification of the area, he said.

The Tanjung Emas Waterfront project stretches 3.5 kilometres along the banks of Sungai Muar starting from Tanjung Emas to Kuala Sungai Abong and provides tourists an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area by exploring the river located in Bandar Maharani via the boat services provided.
