KOTA KINABALU, April 2 (Bernama) -- The 2017 Visit Kadamaian Month programme is hugely beneficial in boosting the economy of the local residents and safeguarding the riches of the natural environment in the area.

CommunicationS and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the local community had a platform via the programme to help promote Kadamaian, which is situated at the foot of Gunung Kinabalu, as a well-known ecotourism destination in Malaysia.

"The Visit Kadamaian Month programme is a noble effort which will launch the rural tourism sector to a better level. Kadamaian has its own attractions which can be used as tourism products.

"Among them are the Kampung Talungan tagal eco-tourism system which so far has received 21,000 tourists while Bukit Menunggui, Bukit Bongol and Kedamaian Ulu provide homestay facilities," he said.

He said this in his speech when launching the 2017 Visit Kadamaian Month programme in Kampung Tambulion, near here today.

Salleh said the extremely encouraging response from various strata of society towards the programme was a good sign for the development of the tourism industry in Sabah.

"This is the spirit of Kadamaian and I hope the residents here will be united and cooperate to help develop their respective areas," he said.

The government always laud the solid cooperation and support of all to develop and boost the economy of Sabah. In this regard, I urge all communities to together lure domestic and foreign tourists to Sabah, especially to the Kota Belud district.

Salleh said the state government of Sabah, through the Sabah Tourism Board, (STB) too would continue efforts to encourage society to organise creative and innovative activities which could attract many tourists.

"The government is also prepared to listen to any idea and view from society who want to jointly develop the economy of Sabah, specifically in the tourism sector," he said.

Salleh said his ministry was always striving to boost infrastructure such as upgrading the internet coverage to 3G and 4G in Kota Belud.

"The ministry will ensure the town areas in Kota Belud get 4G coverage and the rural areas of the district have 3G coverage.

"As such, I hope the community, especially in Kota Belud, take the initiative to use the internet facility to promote the tourism attractions in the district, specifically in the Kadamaian area," he said.
