PUTRAJAYA: Having South Korean superstar Psy perform at the national-level Chinese New Year celebration in Penang will make the state world even more famous, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.
She said Penang can only benefit from the fact that the Youtube sensation has set a record of over 1 billion hits on his music video and that he has more than 4.7 million fans worldwide.
Ng also denied claims that the Government was footing the bill for bringing Psy over to Penang, adding that there is no other motive behind the move other than to liven up the event.
"Malaysians like to speculate... It is not using the Government's money or Barisan Nasional money to pay Psy's appearance fee, and we are not looking at conversion of votes.
"We all love to be happy, so we are bringing Psy here to make people happy," she said at a press conference to announce the upcoming Drumming Up The Nation street carnival at her ministry here on Friday.
