Asia’s second most romantic hotel

If fancy hotels in Paris sound expensive, choose a romantic getaway that is closer to home

Malaysia has the second most romantic hotel in Asia, says TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site. This is based on feedback it derived for its 2013 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Hailed by guests as “home by the sea”, Casa del Mar Langkawi emerged ahead of eight other properties from Maldives and Thailand to be ranked as the second Most Romantic Hotel in Asia. Casa del Mar is a boutique beach resort on Pantai Cenang featuring 34 sea-facing rooms.

Resort general manager, Tom Blachere, said the award was not only an honour for them, but also for the Malaysian travel and tourism industry as a whole as it presents the country as an ideal destination for travellers around the world seeking a truly romantic getaway.

“We would like to thank our guests for their continuous support and we look forward to delivering the highest service standards possible to ensure that they keep coming back,” he added. The resort received the good news ahead of Valentine’s Day, which falls today.

TripAdvisor chief marketing officer, Barbara Messing, said the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards were based on millions of reviews and opinions from travellers around the world.

“The awards are based on feedback from couples who have stayed at these hotels and given them the highest romantic stamp of approval,” she said, adding that the hotel reviews and opinions from travellers on TripAdvisor were gathered over a period of one year, with emphasis on insights from those who have marked, on the review form, that they stayed at the hotel as a “couple”.
