KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu has joined the ranks of world cities offering double-decker buses for hop-on, hop-off tours, said Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
The service connects 17 iconic landmarks, giving visitors a convenient way to experience the city's culture and lifestyle, she said.
"This will contribute to sustainable urban mobility, promote inclusive tourism and support the local economy," Liew said at the official launch of the service at KK Sentral.
City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said the buses were more
than just a new tourism product.
"They represent a commitment to elevating Kota Kinabalu's presence on the world tourism map and ensuring our growth is both inclusive and sustainable," he said.
KK Hop On Hop Off chairman Datuk Tan Kok Liang said the service went beyond sightseeing.
"It allows visitors to see, taste and experience a city that is dynamic, welcoming and forward-looking," he said.
The route runs from KK Sentral to Tanjung Aru, covering attractions from the historic Atkinson Clock Tower to modern landmarks such as Suria Sabah Mall and the Sabah International Convention Centre.
Two 60-seater, 4.2m-high buses operate the service, giving passengers elevated views of the city, Tan said.
Commentary is available in English, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, Korean and Japanese.
Operating hours are from 9am to 6pm, with tickets priced at RM30 (adults) and RM20 (children aged 5 to 12) for Malaysians, and RM45 (adults) and RM20 (children) for international visitors.
"We believe this initiative will not only boost city tourism
but also support local businesses, create memorable experiences for visitors
and place Kota Kinabalu alongside other world-class tourist cities," Tan
added.
