SEPANG: Zulfahmi Khairuddin notched his first podium podium finish in the Supersport class of the Superbike World Championships at the Sepang Circuit today.
The Orelac Racing rider, who started from fifth on the grid, took the lead from the first lap and remained in the lead until the 11th lap when Italian Ayrton Badovini overtook him.
The duo exchanged took turns leading the race in the 12th and 14th (final) lap but it was Badovini (Gemar Balloon-Team Lorini) who took victory, edging Zulfahmi by just half a bike in a time of 33 minutes and 22.944s.
Englishman Gino Rea (GRT Racing Team) completed the podium, 0.9s adrift of Badovini.
The race was scheduled to start earlier in the day, but was postponed due to heavy rain.
Zulfahmi is competing in his first season in the Supersport series after having spent the last six years competing in the smallest category of the MotoGP World Championships.
