Nazri Hails Perak River Endurance As Major Tourism Event

KUALA KANGSAR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has hailed the Perak River Endurance 2016 as a long-distance kayaking event that promotes the rich culture and history of the state of Perak.

He said the event, which takes participants downstream from the royal town of Kuala Kangsar through Pasir Salak and Teluk Intan up to Bagan Datoh, has the capacity to make a major impact on tourism in the state.

The programme would make the Perak River a destination that could be explored to become a major tourist attraction that also improved the economy of the state, he said.

"The ministry supports the event because the Perak River is rich in history and heritage. The programme is a people's carnival that has a major impact on tourism in the state," he said in his speech at the launch of the event at Dataran Sungai Perak Indah here Friday night.

The text of his speech was read out by the director of the Perak Tourism and Culture Office, Mohd Hizaz Mohd Ibrahim.

Perak River Endurance 2016 organising chairman Maimun Hussin said the four-day event would see kayaking over a distance of 200 kilometres downstream from Kuala Kangsar through Pasir Salak and Teluk Intan to Bagan Datoh.
