Make use of train service, tour agencies urged

JOHOR BARU: Tour agencies and companies should capitalise on the upcoming increase in the Tebrau Shuttle train service frequency between Johor Baru and Singapore to benefit the state’s tourism sector.
Johor executive councillor for tourism, domestic trade and consumerism Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said it was a good move by KTM Bhd to increase the frequency from the current 14 trips to 22 trips from Jan 17 to ease traffic congestion on the Causeway.
The five-minute train trips from the Johor Baru Sentral (JB Sentral) station to Woodlands station in Singapore would be increased to 12 trips a day from the current seven.
The seven trips in the reverse direction (from Woodlands to JB Sentral) would be increased to 10.
Tee suggested that tour companies in Johor come up with packages where tourists from Singapore could enter Johor Baru via the train service and have tour buses pick them up at JB Sentral, located in the heart of the city.
This could save time and cost as tourists would not have to waste time being stuck in traffic on the Causeway, he told The Star here yesterday.
Besides creating more customers for the tour agencies, Tee said the idea could ensure a more balanced passenger flow in both directions.
