Twice Weekly Kuching-Hong Kong Direct Flight Begins April

KUCHING, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Hong Kong Airlines today inked an agreement with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) to embark on a Hong Kong-Kuching direct flight service twice weekly beginning late April.

STB in a statement said the agreement will see the A320 aircraft from Hong Kong arriving in Kuching every Tuesday and Friday night, and making a return trip to Hong Kong the next day.

The signing ceremony took place at the airline's office in Lantau, Hong Kong today, with its CEO, Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, who is also the Permanent Secretary to the Sarawak's Tourism Ministry, signed on behalf of the Board while Hong Kong Airlines' Assistant Director of Commercial, Michael Burke penned his signatures for Hong Kong Airlines.

The ceremony was witnessed by Sarawak's Tourism Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his Assistants, Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Datuk Gramong Juna.

Commenting on the propose of direct flight, the Minister said the signing ceremony today marked another milestone in the development of Sarawak's tourism industry.

"It augurs well for the state", he added, and said that it would certainly help to spur movement of tourists and business travelers between Hong Kong and Southern China into Sarawak and vice versa.

He expressed hope that Hong Kong would be the next "hub" for Sarawak, besides Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, in its tourism marketing effort in bringing more visitors from overseas.
