Kedah To Host Launch Of VMY 2014, Says Mukhriz

YAN (Kedah), Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Kedah is to host the launch of Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 on the legendary island of Langkawi and make it a glittering event that tourists will treasure for all time.

Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz had agreed to the state hosting the event.

"I feel it is most appropriate that the launch be held there. Usually, at the end of the year, we have about 30,000 visitors in Langkawi. "Many of them are foreign tourists and most of them are repeat visitors. They return to Langkawi every year. As a gesture of appreciation, we should host a glittering event for them to treasure for all time," he said.

Mukhriz was commenting on Kedah's preparations to host the launch of VMY 2014 in a live interview today over the Kedah FM radio.

Mukhriz also said that the state government was striving to improve Kedah's tourism products, such as the hotspring in Baling, Gunung Jerai and Tasik Pedu, to prepare for an influx of tourists. This was because the state did not want to be merely a transit point for tourists visiting other destinations, he said.

"I myself am looking forward to getting all these going. We have also had discussions with travel agents on the needs of tourists because we want our tourism products to meet the demands of tourists," he said.
