Nazri Welcomes More Chinese Tourists To Visit Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz hopes more tourists from China will visit Malaysia next year which has been designated as 'Visit Malaysia Year'.
The year, 2014 also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

Mohamed Nazri said China had been among the top five tourist generating markets for Malaysia in the first half of this year. "It registered a double digit growth of 24.5 per cent or 943,756 tourists (from January to June), as compared to the same period in 2012.

"It is our sincere hope that more tourists from China will come and visit us, in conjunction with our Visit Malaysia Year 2014, which is aptly themed 'Celebrating 1Malaysia, Truly Asia'," he said in his speech at an event held at Istana Budaya in the capital, Monday. Mohamed Nazri's text of speech was read by Istana Budaya director-general Datuk Mohamed Juhari Shaarani.

The minister also said Malaysia had recorded 12.55 million tourist arrivals for the first six months of this year, constituting a 7.9 per cent growth as compared to the same period last year. This would be translated into RM31.18 billion in tourist receipts, compared to RM26.8 billion in the corresponding period last year, he said.
