KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is targeting a yearly passenger increase of five to 10 per cent for its Electric Train Service (ETS) between Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.
KTMB InterCity Service senior marketing manager Mohd NoordinKimi said the ETS recorded a surge in passenger volume from 3,000 to 6,000 daily in August. He said 3.5 million passengers had used the transportation mode since ETS was launched in 2010.
"Consumer confidence, the comfort and safety of the train, besides the ETS' ability to stick to schedule was what further motivated KTBM to set the target," he told reporters at a three-day KTMB-media programme to Ipoh recently. Mohd Noordin said the ETS coaches have three pin plugs fitted near every seat, a cafe, television and CCTV for passengers' comfort.
To enhance the quality of the ETS, KTMB introduced a new schedule effective this month to meet the high demand between 4 pm and 9 pm, he said. Meanwhile, he said the ETS would be expanded to Kuala Kangsar next year once the double track project is completed.
