Special art by special people

In conjunction with Malaysia Contemporary Arts Tourism 2012, Resorts World Genting is holding “Malaysia Truly Asia” Art Competition’ for slow learners and those with physical disabilities.


The competition is now open until end September and thereafter an exhibition to exhibit the works of these participants will be held from Oct 27 to Nov 4. The competition hopes to create a platform for slow learners and those with physical disabilities to showcase their talents.

All they need to do is to submit one or more pieces of their paintings according to the theme of the competition, which is ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’. They can submit their paintings in the form of drawings, paintings, sculptures and printmaking.

At a recent visit to the United Voice Art Gallery, Genting Malaysia Berhad public relations & communications vice-president Katherine Chew said, “There are so many talented and gifted special children and individuals out there. We want to promote their art and create more news about their work. “It is amazing to see the wonderful art pieces by this group of community.”

Registration forms are now available online via www.rwgenting.com or www.facebook.com/resortsworldgenting of which contestants must complete two copies and also include a short artist’s statement of not more than 50 works on the art work. The winners of the competition will be notified by post and announcements in the following websites by Oct 10 via Resorts World Genting official website or Resorts World Genting Facebook page.

The grand prize is worth RM10,000 of which RM8,000 is cash and a holiday for two persons on the Star Cruises. The second prize is worth RM7,000 (RM5,000 cash and a holiday to Resorts World Sentosa of 3D, 2N stay and two tickets to Universal Studios for two persons). The third prize is worth RM4,000 (RM3,000 and 3D2N holiday to Resorts World Awana, Genting Theme Park and Freeze Show tickets for two persons). Consolation prizes are also available for five of the participants that includes cash prize of RM500 each, 2D1N at Resorts World Awana and Genting Theme Park tickets for two persons.

The judges for the event are Philip Wong, the founder of Artseni Galllery who is currently working on an international art exhibition, renowned art curator Zanita Anuar who is currently the Museums Innovation Division director and Ooi Kok Chuen, a renowned art writer and the deputy organising chairman of Art Expo Malaysia.
